  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Need lighting help on TXC 450 for Vegas to Reno

I'm prepping an 09 TXC450 for this years Vegas to Reno. We need a headlight in case things don't go our way and have some downtime and have to finish at night. If all goes good we should finish in the daylight. The research I've done says bike has a 70 watt stator. We're not looking to light up the sky, we just need enough light to get us to the finish line. What kind of light will this bike run, HID, LED or ? There's a plug under tank that I've read is a power source that can be used for lights. Any suggestions or experience putting lights on this bike? Any plug and play applications out there?
Thanks

LEDs, like the Squadron, or even some helmet mounted LEDS. HIDs are heavy, with the ballasts. LEDs draw low amps.

Ty and I have been looking into lighting for racing recently. In your case, I would recommend the led lighting like OHR recommends above. State of the art right now for desert racing is (I kid you not) regular 8" halogen truck head lamps. Something to do with the shadow effect at high speed. I run an 8" HID, but that's for night racing.

We've decided to race without lights. We are racing over 30 expert and should finish before nightfall. We have 14 hours to get there. If we don't we don't deserve to finish.......that's what I'm telling teammates! We were on pace last year to finish in the daylight and that was starting in the back in open am. Plus we won't have quads to pass. Tinken can you or Ty suggest a gearing setup? I'm thinking 15/47 or 14/46. Those 2 are pretty close to each other and would only have to buy a 15 front if we go 15/47. Don't know if that combo will eat up swingarm . Also what weight oil would you suggest for the high speeds 15/40, 10/40 or????

Can you tell me a little more about that engine, did you go through it, what did you replace, how old is it?

Bike was bought as new Demo bike. It has 10 or so hours on it. Were not touching motor and running the stock TXC exhaust. I put in the upgraded impellar and cover and running your coolant. Other than that just guards and Tys suspension work.

On the headlight, even though you plan to finish before nightfall, get something set up. Have a plan to put it on.
If you have it you shouldn't need it ;)

Ok so team mates now want a light! Anyone know if power going to plug under tank is regulated? Talked with trailtech and they have a light that will work with stock stator, they just want to know if I need a regulator or not.

I just came back from Searchlight night races this past weekend and I can tell you that the single six led light bars worked great. Some bikes had dual Squadron's, but they did not work very well.
