  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Need help with TE 450 mtr in a TC 450 bike

ted

Husqvarna
I have been looking for a motor for my 07 TC 450.
Demi put me onto a TE 450 on eBay which looks great.
My question is there anything I should be aware of that
would make the swap unusual or difficult. Also my
motor broke the case in the area of the kick starter but
it only has 8 hrs on it so will cylinder head and such
interchange if the need arose in the future. Thanks for
the help folks this site is awesome!

The 2007 TE 450 motor will fit in your 07 TC frame and almost all the parts are interchangeable. I think the timing and cams are different? $1600 is on the high side and they didn't list how many miles. I would wait for a 06/07 TC to come up for sale and get the whole bike for the same price as a TE motor.

Dont know where you live, but it's tough to find a complete 04-07 bike thats not thrashed for $1600 around here. I have seen them, it's just not a normal deal. 2300 is more common around here and even those are still every 5-6 months.

Cams are identical on TE,TC, and SM motors for 2007, at least according to the parts manuals. I've looked them up for a 510 swap I want to do.

They are getting harder to find but older TC's are out there. If you are in a pinch and don't have time to wait, the TE450 motor will work fine. I think you will like that set up with the lighter TC frame and the extra gear on the TE motor.

Thanks for all the input. So this raises another question after seeing some of your responses on the dollars. I have 1500 in the bike right now. If I put another 1600 I'm at 3100 for an 07. The bike has no more than 8 hrs on it so do I fix it or do I cut my losses and sell or part out and buy another bike? Thanks again.

If I were putting that kind of money into new parts I would think its worth knowing the motor has all new components. Then again even at about 3k that would be the price of a used one (in my area). It's really a matter of what it's worth to you.

i've been eyeing that TE450 motor on eBay as well but agree the price is high.

ted, what did you do with your TC motor w/broken case?

EDIT: i see you kept it. was wondering if it was for sale :D

I've decided to part out the bike. Every piece short of the broken edge on the case looks new. The tits are even still on the tires. I have an extra set of plastics that look like new. I also have an extra silencer. The stock one looks like its barely been fired. The one on it is supposed to be a factory piece from husky that's supposedly a step up. I have a starter off of an 07 TE 450 as well. I will try and start putting a list on as soon as I can figure prices. Very low hour motor with cracked case should be worth 500 I think. If you are interested in any part off the bike just message me. Thanks

Why would you replace the entire motor for a $25o outer engine case. That is NOT part of the actual engine cases that support the crankshaft and such. Most other companies would call that a clutch case. you're problem is a known design flaw that happens when you try to kickstart the bike. you don't have to split the cases for that outer case either. It's a couple hours work and you're good to go. Then when it's all fixed, NEVER touch that kick starter again. Only use the estart button. Husqvarna apparently cant make engine cases.

I will be back in town tomorrow and will put a list up. Soviet, the clutch cover and the case behind is broke. I haven't looked close but I've never seen a bike motor that the inner case can be replaced without splitting. Am I missing something?

there are three cases with these motors, plus the circular cover every calls the "clutch cover". The clutch case (circular clutch cover fastens to it) is much larger, houses the oil filter, kick starter etc. The clutch case is entirely separate from the other two actual cases, which are what you would "split" to pull the crankshaft/transmission etc. This clutch case is a known issue, and will crack at the slightest touch of trying to start you bike with the kicker. If this clutch case is the only cracked portion, then you're a okay. It;s a $250 dollar part and acoupla hours work. Post a pic of the crack. shouldn't be hard to diagnose if the motor is junk or you just need a clutch case.

sounds good, ted.

Soviet is right but i've seen a few cases that were cracked all the way through to the inner case, not just the outer cover(s). a pic would be great.
