  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc need help with ignition timing

while riding todaymy stator came just a little loose and messed up my ignition timing and is screwed. I cant really see the old marks so was wandering if anyone could help me. Its for a 91wxe 260

anyone? i think i found the old spot but is running really bad. It seems like it runs kinda hot and cuts in and out really bad at idle to 1/3 throttle. The only thing thats happened was the stator coming loose and screwing it up. Any ideas?

it also seems like it has no over rev?? not sure if thats what its called but it gets into the power band and then kinda just stops ands sounds real smooth but not much power.

Got it all fixed but think my cdi went bad. The guy I got it from is gonna send me new one for cost of shipping. From what I know my stator and coil are still good. Whats the best way to test it. He told me from my main wire going into cdi when cranking over should get around 50VAC which I did and then ohm the coil from plug wire to spade connection coming off which i got around 12k which I guess is good which would leave me with cdi? Could bad ignition timing have blown the cdi or is there a different problem. Thanks

I'm kinda confused, so did you get your timing figured out? How did you do that off an old mark you found or did you measure it? I would be 100% on my timing before looking at anything else

yes i was able to see my old marks. At first from it moving I couldnt but then studied it some more and was able to see the old marks. I know timing is right but the wouldnt make me not have spark.

didn't realize you didn't have spark, just thought it wouldn't rev out the way you want it to... you checked the secondary side of the coil plug wire to spade. check the primary quick just to be sure that side is good (spade to spade). Also check the pickup coil. If it doesn't know where the piston is in the cylinder it won't know when to fire the spark.

wow this thread is hard to follow
a 91 260 is a Motoplat unless it was replaced
to time a Motoplat you need to use a key from the rotor to the stator and check it for ACCURACY, that was what most of the others were asking .02mm is a big timing change and not something you will see without proper measuring tools
so your stator came loose, how did you tighten it? reach through the rotor and tighten it or remove therotor and the stator clean the surfaces between the cases and the stator base plate of oil, check the threads, lap the rotor to the crank stub and set the timing using a dial indicator to the top of the piston
procedures can avoid a lot of headaches, I know they are boring but pushing a bike is worse if you have no spark in this situation I would look at the stator to case ground first as it was where your problem started, the tests for Motoplats are simple and worth checking, after a diagnosis, proper cleaning and assembly please let me know your results

here is a link that might help with the checking numbers for a Motoplat

Thanks so much. Yah sorry for the confusion...im not good at explaining things online. I puller flywheel and tightened it and am going to threadlock once im hundred percent sure. there are no marks that I can see on stator and new to ignition timing. here is a pic of my statorIMG_0538.jpg

not a Motoplat, looks like the ignition in my 360 sort of, there is a procedure and a tool for setting these
notice this ignition has a ground I put one on the Motoplats too
remove the stator and clean the surfacess where it mounts
before you put the mag rotor back on remember to pull the key put lapping compound on the crank stub and rotate the rotor to seat it properly replace the key an install and tighten the mag
if you have spark loosen the stator screws and try moving it a little at a time each way to see if it runs better, rotate the stator clockwise a little first to retard it

Ok got cdi and still no spark**************************************** need help! I tested my stator and I was getting 50VAC but now im not. I dont see anything wrong with my stator. Not burnt looking or anything? any help is appreciated!

Those arnt wires they are a cloth covering that went around them.....but under them I found a wire that was crimped together that had broke apart...Put it back together and fired right up. I had looked over the cdi a couple times but this time i started moving all the wires and found it!
