    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Need help identifying my motor- pics inside

I recently picked up a modified Emmick racing kart with what is believed to be a Husqvarna 500cc two stroke form around 1986 (as it is water cooled). It is a left kicker. I was also told it could be a KTM.

I have been able to get it running and it seems like it has really good power. I am currently having issues with the carb. I think there is an issue with the floats. The carb gets fuel into the bowl then I get it started and drive it down the block and then the bowl runs out of fuel and doesn't fill back up until I remove the bowl again. So I have emailed a guy that I found online that rebuilds and sells parts for the Bing #54 carbs. I am waiting to hear back from him and hopefully will get the rebuild parts for that.

I am trying make sure the motor IS in fact a Husky 500 and if so what model (xt,xc ect...) so I can order other parts for the motor itself.

My friend has an 85-86 Husky 500 and the motor looks the same. Im sorry if I sound confused. This is my first dealings with a two stroke ever.
 
Sorry, I googled it and can see that it does appear to be a Maico. Thank you very much for leading me in the right direction. Since they seem to be fairly rare bikes I wounder if I should sell this motor and just buy a newer 250. I want an engine that parts are more readily available and could be picked up locally.
 
Flywheel on the right side, so it is not a Japanese, but surely an european !
Not a 500 Husqvarna.
So it could be a Maico or KTM.
The cylinder is big !
500 + ???
Perhaps a side-car motor (Zabel or other producer...), 700 ATK ?
 
I've putten pics on a french website, and westcoast was right.
500 Maico 85 or 86 with perhaps a side-car cross ZABEL top end .
 
Ok. So I got it all dialed in today and set out on my maiden voyage down the block. THIS IS INSANELY FAST!!! I accidentaly did a complete wheelie in front of my house when trying to do a doughnut. I was scared shitless. If it had not been for rear framerails sticking out about 10" acting like wheelie bars I would have looped this thing and been seriously injured.

I am just going to have to sell this thing and maybe go with something a little less serious.

I cannot believe you guys ride dirtbikes this fast! I have had many BIG cruisers and sportbikes and NONE of them were this fast. Feels as fast as my r1.

That is crazy. Looks like a death trap. That cart looks like it weights a fraction of what a motorcycle does and with a 500cc two stroke! Might be fun on a dirt circle but would think that short wheel base would be extremely unstable at speed on tarmac.
 
It's an Open class dirt track fun kart. But you can see that someone has toasted the tires on pavement. Those tires last for years on dirt. If you don't have a place to race it for fun, you'll have a hard time finding a track that would let you race it for points. There's a track here in New England where you could race it. It's a motorcycle flat track, but they race karts too. We've raced there just to try dirt and to see what LOOSE really feels like. It's a blast.
Sorry, Forgot this is a Husky site. Will be attempting to race my first Vintage MX race this Saturday on my 73 WR/CR 250 cross.
