• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

First off chaps i would like to say what a great forum i joined about 3 weeks ago and this is my first post as ive been reading searching and reading even more..............so much to take in. LOL

Im from the UK and only Passed my bike test February this year and have always wanted a SM, started looking at KTM's then discovered the 610sm as soon as i saw one i knew that was the bike for me.
Three weeks ago i picked up my new toy 2007 Yellow/blue Husky with 4.5k on the clock, since then ive have only used it 3 times as i wanted to give it as good oil change and a full once over before i start put the miles on her.

So today i had chance to drop the oil out of her and change it with some motul 10/60 and new filter.
Right............then i pulled the 2 oil screens out for a clean (gear peg side) to find a fair bit of what seemed to be Brown broken plastic.
Didnt have gasket to check other side.
I will say i checked for any broken metal and there was none and only minamal filings on sump plug.
Does this mean my cam chain is worn???
wearing of chain guide or reed valve????
Now i havent pulled the chain tensioner out as yet (was not brave enough).

Now at this point i will say that the bike runs like a dream and i have been out on it most of the day today. oil change has made the gearbox feel like brand new.

So should i be worried about this??
Because im loving it at the moment and do not mind having to pull her apart in the near future to change timing chain, just wasnt planning on it after only 4 Rides.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks
Ben.

If the screens have never been checked, chances are that the plastic stuff in the screen is excess case sealant. Might want to dig up a shop manual and look up the chain tensioner check/adjustment. If it's excessive, it might be time for a new cam chain, but 4.5k is a little soon for it.

hey mate, i'm uk too. whereabouts are ya? not many husky owners over here! i'm in london and have never seen another one in the past 6 months!

the right side gasket doesn't have o-rings so you can just whip the case off and check it (after draining oil). from my limited experience you won't find anything in there (hopefully!). as for the left side i had a similar thing to you. just drop the oil again in 1000 miles and check it. i'm doing 1000 mile oil & filter changes on mine, cheap enough so worth being OCD. as for the cam chain just take the bolt in the centre out first and remove spring. then undo the cct bolts and remove, you can then count the exposed clicks. think mine was at 6 with about 4.5-5k miles. then reset the cct to 0 (just lift up the doobrey whatsit and push it back in) and put back in. getting the spring back in is tricky but just take your time and it'll work out. worry about the cam chain when it gets to 9/10. this is one of things i'm most hacked off about with mine. new cam chain at 10k miles is ridiculous for me after coming from jap bikes but my husky is so much fun i guess it's worth it!

Hey Motad,
im not far from watford so you might be seeing another husky sooner than you think ;).

Thanks for replies, its put my mind at rest as i have also been reading posts on SMJ and there a few people that have found the same in there oil screens and say not to worry could be a combo of broken up gasket and epoxy from flywheel, and im thinking that the last 2 owners of my bike (me being the 3rd) have never cleaned out the oil screens.
I will be changing oil and cleaning them again in 500mls just to be sure.

What you're seeing is normal. You can pull the RH sidecase and reuse the gasket several times if you want to check the RH bag filter, but you won't find anything in it. Welcome and enjoy the Husqy.

I'm going to continue to pull the RH side just to keep an eye on the clutch washers. They are the same parts that gave people problems on the 610.

Welcome mate!

I'm from the UK to, down near Brighton on the South Coast.
If you have got an Fuel Injection bike you should check and see if you have the 'Power up' mods carried out. Definitely makes a hell of a difference to the bike.

But just keep on top of the oil changes and ride the crap out of it :D

Unfortunately though you can't see anything just by removing the cover. You will need to remove the clutch assembly (housing/basket riveted to drive plate) in order to inspect the washers. Once you have that off just replace them regardless of condition so don't bother unless you have new cup spring washers on hand.

Unfortunately its not fuel injected its the last of the carb model, I am interested in freeing up some more power tho I've been looking at the arrow can seems good value bout £250 and I'm reading lots about carb rejetting but I dont know where to start with that there seems to be some many different settings, I don't want to bugger up the running of the bike as im really happy with how it delivers it's power tho a bit more would be nice, I think I will start with a new can and go from there.
If anyone can recommend a better exhaust for the money and point me in the direction of rejetting I'm all ears.........;)

The Leo Vince X 3 is a very good can for the money! Lots of 610 - 630 owners have them and I'm one of them. I can tell you, for the money and proformance you can go wrong! You might not find on that says its for the TE, but the SM model is the same one. They look, sound, preform, etc... Great! They come with 3 different Db killers and a spark arrester.

I really like the look of them, any ideas what I would pay and where to find 1 in the uk??
Thanks for help.

Huskysport over in Hampshire will probably sell them, or have a google for a stockist.
My 09 came with the Leo Vince X3, Its good but can be a little loud (Although its quieter than my brothers KTM 690SMC with a Vince)
I only have one DB killer pipe and the Spark arrestor (Mesh Screen)

They do say not for road use, so will need a sticker or something to cover it up when you take it for an MOT.

Not sure about sourcing them in the UK. They are made in Italy, so you should find one with out trouble. Look on EBay. Wings is also a good pipe, but not sure about the cost. Make sure you use the OEM clamp from the stock can. The clamp from LV isn't big enough and allows air to leak in/out. WD40 will help when tightening the clamp, otherwise it can bunch up the flang and again cause a leak. Atleast this was a problem I had.

i bought mine from the italian ebay fella. just search leo vince x3 sm610 on ebay.it - http://www.ebay.it/sch/i.html?_from...nkw=leo+vince+sm610&_sacat=See-All-Categories pay with paypal, jobs a good'un. although being italian you'll probably have to wait a few weeks for it :D

fitting is fairly simple if you get the full system. slip on will be even easier. got my leo vince through an mot this weekend no probs but they're good like that at my local place :)

Wicked, thanks mate.
I will just be going for the slip on for now, what's the score with the DB things and spark arrestor??? Does it come with these and do I have to use them??
As if I'm spending out on new Can I want it as loud as possible!! ;)

The DB Killers are different lengths of pipe you put down the end, they resonate at different levels causing the volume to change.
The Spark arrestor is a screen mesh that should stop sparks from igniting grasses and such when trail riding.

You don't have to have any of those bits fitted, and it will be pretty loud! :D

You may need to look at different jets for when you get the pipe as it will effect the performance, air flow etc.
I have an injection bike but there are lots of posts about what size jets to run with the mods done to these bikes.

Right now I'm confussed,
I'm seeing that there are two versions of the LV for my bike 3845c and a 3552 ????
Whats the differences and what are you guys running???

Thanks again fellas.

Looks like the 3845c has a stainless end cap with spark arrestor and 2 different DB killers.
