  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

my 5 minute ride / review of the 2010 TXC250

Picked up said bike yesterday. We richened up the EFI settings as per some info. Not sure it needed it but was super EZ to do and fun to play with. I have one parking lot ride and one ride around the hood and can already tell this bike is going to be a VERY good fit for me. Feels super light like my 09 WR125, in fact feels almost exactly like that bike other than a smooth more powerful motor. The motor seems to start EZ, even kick started it in 2 kicks cold just to see. Will obviously need to get some time on it but just riding it around I'm not feeling the soft / weak motor everyone seems to be talking about and it is just going to get stronger. Mine feels snappy, instant, lugs fine, mid rip. Did not take it into the top end but I'm guessing good things up there.

this bike has a 3.12" bore and 2" stroke****************************************!! Wow, that is the most oversquare design I have seen. The motor is amazingly small in person. the whole bike is jewel like. EFI already seems to work near perfect on mine. No reported bog off the bottom and runs smooth / pulls hard. Completely de-restricted already, filter cage, cat, throttle stop, etc. Bike is a little loud even with the screen in. Motor itself seems a lot quieter mechanically than the old motor.

This is going to be FUN.

observations:

- Motor is tiny
- bike feels super light
- EFI new to me and intimidating a bit
- Throttle pull seems light
- small tanks suc
- the starter is the size of a D size battery and makes the funnest sound
- What does the green light mean?
- Brembo clutch feels no softer than the Magura
- Forks feel real stiff but reports are they are soft
- nice stock skid plate, hope it lasts
- Bark and snap from the motor surprised me, maybe because i keep hearing how weak it is
- Embedded and clear coated graphics look sweet in person (not for long :>)
- Seat seems stiffer foam
- ball ramp built into tank / not removable
- new triple clamps from Zoke bikes it looks like

Weather here SUCKS so I'm not sure when a real evaluation might happen.

Not to stray off topic... but hmmmm... now you have a test mule to design a new damper clamp! You know, with the bad weather and all... should have time... just sayin'... :D

So....is "said" bike your bike?

it is.

Sold my much loved TE610 as i needed this bike to understand EFI and build parts for the new generation of bikes. Dampers and stuff coming. hated to see that cherry of a 610 go but in this economy i can't swing them both and keep my 09 WR125 which is going no where, ever.

Well now CONGRATS!!! So in the lot it feels as light as your WR125?

it really does. feels super slim, light and out of your way. My 125 is bordering on being to light, yes i feel thats possible. Light bikes deflect EZer and have a harder time tracking, even with excellent suspension. 220-235 seems the ideal weight for a bike IMHO especially is it carries the weight real low. This bike i am guessing is about 230 but feels VERY EZ to move around. Obviously i need some real time on the bike before i make any real statements. :D but loading it into my truck and riding it around the hood it feels just like my 125 with a different motor, which is what it is.

Glad to hear some positive reports about the power of the new engine. The final decision for me will be TE vs. TXC. Hopefully the TE is as sharp as the TXC and I suspect they may be as both have EFI. Usually the TE is toned down a fair amount.

i think this year the TE and TXC are VERY similar bikes. the TXC is basically a TE without the street stuff for 2010.

That's the disease talking. You'll tell yourself anything to justify that next 'hit' :busted:

Congrats on the new bike

Pics!?!?

I'd like to get one for an enduro weapon and was wondering how it powered up.
Is there a switch to energize the system or is it always on like my '09 txc250 and you just hit the button or kicker?
About all our enduros around here are dead engine starts and I'm wondering how it'll work.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Red button is the kill switch / on switch. When it is out the pump cycles and stops and the red light is on. Hit the button and go. Disengage the red button to kill it.

Damn, that bike looks awesome (glamor shots...that's funny)...congrats Kelly! I'm not going to be able to take a swim with you at Tahuya because of the weather, but maybe next week if we get a break in the weather...jeez, it's coming down!

Thanks, my plans may have changed also and might do something more local. Open offer to try it out. will be demoing it allot I'm sure.

The nice guys at turntech are sending me one of their cool lite batteries to test in this thing. Just dropped 2.5 pounds of high placed weight.

Will keep you posted on ow it works and such.

First but EZ to remedy issue will be the turntech is a lot smaller so the seat will no longer hold it in. Industrial zip ties will get the duty there.

Industrial zip ties will work quite nicely. Here's mine in the TXC and it hasn't budged even after Cody put it to the MX test:
