  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Just wanted to post up my current project. Unfortunately I inherited my brothers 2007 TE 250 when he passed so I'm keeping this bike for sentimental reason.

My brother bought it new when I talked him out of buying a KLX 250 as he want a street legal dualsport. He barely rode it so the bike has under 500 original miles on it. When we picked it up from the dealer we went straight to my house and de smoged it and installed a JD jet kit. My brother later had the suspension lowered 3"

This bike has sat around all its life so I have gone through everything. Changed all fluids and filter, cleaned carb, replaced AP, new air filter, new intake boot and manifold (rotted out, weird) lubed linkage, swing arm, grips etc...

Oh I added a full TC Ti exhaust and some other little bit of bling too. Lol

Last thing was I had the suspension brought back to stock ride height along with being sprung and revalved for me by a member here. Should be a fun bike and will fill the gap in nicely with my current fleet.

One thing I have noticed is the bike smokes pretty good and seems to burn a little oil on cold startup. Is that normal? It will eventually clear out once warmed up but still has little oil smell to the exhaust at times.

My brother in no way rode it even remotely hard. In fact he just putted along like an old man LOL

valve guide seals shrunk a little maybe? (if so- not a huge deal; and they could improve with time)
 
Looks like a delightful machine and something nice to remember your brother by. They are a pretty bullet proof machine-the same bottom end is used on the 310's, 450's and 510's so big end, bearings, clutch and gearbox should last a long time. Enjoy.
 
Maybe it's just not really broken in yet? Did your brother ride it hard? By the looks of it I'd guess not so maybe it's still getting there. Nice way to keep him smiling down on you.:cheers:

Yeah, he just putted around on it so I hope you are right. I'll ride it much harder and maybe it'll seat things in and it will stop. Lol.

Yes I rode it last weekend and it was fun. Mostly single track which so perfect for this bike. Starting to get familiar with it and really liking it. Need to dial in the suspension more. Would like a little more grunt out of the bottom end but liking the fact that I'm not as tired. Bike does not beat you up!!!

Love to put a couple of my vintage Husky's on display in your shop. LOL
 
I picked up my '07 TE250 in 2012 with only 100 miles on it. Interesting story on the bikes original owner, the Comedian, John Lovitz. My bike smoked like crazy when I picked it up and I thought the rings had seized after sitting for so long. I read here, they just do that until they are broken in and sure enough after a few hundred more miles, it's all good.
Sorry about your brother, but I'm sure he would be glad it's putting a smile on your face to ride it.

Thanks for the input. Hope the smoking goes away. It's gotten better now that it is not over filled. I opened the fill screw on the clutch cover and let about a quarter cup out. Still smokes a little and has that oil smell to the exhaust. But like I said better now just not gone completely.

Yes my brother would be happy to see it being ridden again.
