• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My 1978 Husky 250 OR Restoration Project

Puckerbush

Husqvarna
AA Class
This project began Sept. 3, but I had a spare '78 250 OR engine that I had rebuilt recently. Now I'm awaiting the Curnutts back from Jake Suspension and the seat cover professionally fitted and I'm done. Before and to date pics below.0903111040.jpgDSCN2244.JPG

Nice bike. I pick one up years ago and restored it. It turn out to be a bike setup by Pro Circuit and it was scary fast. Did you know the OR was faster than the CR motor? Scott Burnwoth in the early days of racing rode a 1978 Husky 250 cr with an OR motor.

The whole bike was rattle can painted including the tank. I used Krylon Osha Red with a couple of coats of clear. At this point I think I'm going to give the bike to my 5 year old grandson that has his hands inside a six speed gearbox helping Papa rebuild. Anyway it will stay in the family and he will have a bike he can say his Papa built. Jake Suspension is not the fastest in the world getting things done but he does good work. I posted more pics including the crack in the case.

Did you clear coat over the chrome? Id like to know the steps you took to clear coat it.

Clear coat over the chrome doesn't come out so good. I'm gonna have to somehow use laquer thinner to get the clear off the chrome. On the latest project, I left the chrome covered when I did the clear coat.

Looks awesome man.... Getting me excited to get back to work on mine!

What kind of paint did you use on the motor/pipe?

Hi Zburd.
I used the gloss VHT paint from PepBoys. High Temp Roll Bar and Chassis. I've used it several times now with good results.

Cracks in the case usually find their way to the bearing race, which in my opinion cannot be fixed due to bearing tolerances. But I have repaired holes in cases caused by corrosion with JB Weld. As far as cracks in the tank, you can try JB Weld but no guarantees.
