  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Moving over to the dark side buying low hour 2010 tc250

Pedec

Husqvarna
Pro Class
After many years of only riding 2 stroke (2008 cr144) I have decided to try the 4 stroke thing. I am hoping the tc 250 will make me happy and not have buyer remorse. I am going to keep cr since the series I race in has 125 2 stroke class and it to much fun to sell and not worth much anyways. So my first question is how often do I change oil and do you change filter with every change. Also what type oil do I use, full synthetic or cheaper oil. I have run yamalube sae 20w-50 oil in other trail bikes which is a mineral based oil. I only ride motocross in b class. I hope this Tc handle light and nimble like my 2 stroke. thanks for any help.

I am not sure about oil changes for mx, but I change mine about every two rides in the woods. May depend on how much clutch abuse. I think 20-60 is recomended, do a search, it has been discussed recently.
It won't be quite as light and nimble as your 125 but makes up for it in instant power.

I change the oil and filter in my 2010 TC 250 every 5 -10 hrs depending on how hard I ride the bike. I think it's a little over the top but I feel better this way. I use the Rotella oil in the white jug (cheap but good). I also have a 08 Husky CR144 and the 2010 TC is easier to ride on a MX track, not quite as light but close and I turn way more consistant lap times on it. The TC is also more stable on the MX IMO and doesn't get deflected as much. It carves corners, crosses rutts, and goes where you point it better than any MX bike I've been on. It's funny to watch the guys at our club who ride Yamaha 450's ride my bike. They all come back and say man this thing TURNS!!! Power is very good without being over the top. I think you are gonna like the TC 250 and look forward to reading your ride report.

Thanks for your help John. So it sounds like you change oil on your tc250 about the same as I change gear oil on my cr. Should I change oil filter every oil change. So power wise would you say tc might have a bit more than cr. Which bike do you ride most.

I usually change the filter every other ride. My Cr has 218 psi, Walt power valve mod, FMF exhaust, and a great carb so I think they are close power wise but the delivery is different for sure. I can actually lugg my 144 in second gear at a crawl not the case with the TC250. I am running the TC with Hall's suggested stuff and it runs very good. The power is vey smooth on the TC with very good midrange with helps me on a MX track. At 52 I stay in the mid to upper mid and this bike is great for that. My son is 30 and a pretty good MX rider he has clocked his fastest laps on the TC and we have had 06 07 Honda 450R's, CR125 -144, 06 Suzuki 450, 08 KTM SX 450, 08 KTM SX 505 , and now a 2011 TM 250 MX. We haven't compaired the TC to the TM yet but he has been more consistant and faster on the TC than all the others. I think for MX it's a great bike. Right now I've been riding my GG 300 and my 144 more than the TC. I'm trying to figure the world of riding through the trees lol and they are both a little better for me in the woods; MX duty still goes to the TC250. I do think a TC with a Rekluse in the woods would be a serious weapon!

Thanks again John I will let you know how the tc250 compare to my cr144 which I just got back from riding today on a moist sand track with big flowing berms it was soo much fun. If the TC gives me half the fun this cr has given me I will be happy. My cr144 is due for new top end and might need to get hold of Walt. I still have my original 125 top end and oem 144 thats on bike now.
