• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Looked for a long time to find a "cheap" non rust bucket van with a 6 cylinder for about a year.....

Stumbled across this one list for $1800 so I went and looked.... the wife cut him down to $1300 because it didn't idle right..... So off I went....

There is a bunch of stuff I want to do.... mainly cover walls and build places to put everything.....

Decisions to make-

Paint with sand in it for the floor or Rhinoline?

Leave the wall or remove?

pegboard, plywood, T-111, or paneling? Whatever it is I will paint white or a light color

Use 1x12 to build cabinets or just by some 18" upper cabinets?
(want places for 2 gas cans and 2 sets of gear, ezup, fluids, and tool box)

I would skip the peg board . But do insulate the walls , it will help cut down on noise . How about building storage down low , think handlebars . Bars and levers are the widest parts on the bike . Try and load bike(s) and check total length , friend of mine was able to carry bikes and have a small bed behind the seats with storage below the bed . Your van , your choices , do what you feel that will work best for you . Just a couple of ideas .

The storage will be along the bottom.... was thinking upper cabinets but placed on floor as to have a seat

Did Ford still put the big 300/4.9L straight 6 in those vans? That's a good motor and I always liked a van as a hauler.

If it's the 4.0 it's a dang fine motor. It's an open canvas, but those walls behind the seats might prove useful. You can hang stuff on them.

Yes , you can hang stuff on them and you'll hear it banging around on every pot hole and ripple in the road . Been there , done that .

They already are banging and driving me nuts thought maybe it I cover with wood they will quiet down

Don't know how many bikes you want to put inside as I see you have more than 1 . Try loading what you think you would carry and see what you have left over for room . That should help you decide what options you may or may not have . Rhynoline might help to deaden noise . Wish you luck on trying to keep the metal dividing walls quiet . Do insulate where you can , it will help with noise and climate control . All that open space takes longer to heat or cool down than a car or truck so insulating can help . Good luck .

The bikes I would normally carry are normally my FE250 and my boys RM85.... so plenty of room....

Got a few rolls of insulation already going to pick up so wood tomorrow.... I think I'm gonna take the wall out I think.... its just kind of annoying... lol

I would consider installing pipe cots (they use these on racing yachts). The would attach to the inside side wall in the van and have hinges that allow the cots to be held up straight when hauling and lay flat for sleeping. They are usually hung from pulleys attached higher up the cabin wall and tie off when adjusted to your desired height. The frames are usually aluminium with mesh filling tied off with a bunge cord around the mesh and the frame.

I like the pegboard its versatile.... going to add some boxes along the bottom on each side to keep stuff from sliding.... like gas cans, boots, various gear, ez up, sleeping bags.....

then a coat of white paint on the walls and gray orange peel on the floor and its about ready to go....

if this vans a rockin.....

wood paneling, 10" TV's, barrel chairs, shag carpeting.

respect the van!
I had a '74 E100 back in my MX days (in the previous millenium) captains seats and totally shagged out, even the ceiling. I built a high platform bed in the back with storage underneath, could barely fit the bike in the side door. Had a rack on the roof and a jerry can of premix in a hanger on the back door. I drove that van back and forth across the states and all around in between quite a few times. It was a chick magnet and had the "If this van is rockin don't bother knockin" bumper sticker

the wall makes it safer for the occupants in the event of a mishap- think of it as a body armour...
