  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

motosportz damper install help needed

ks9mm

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hey Gang,

I am installing motosportz damper on 09 TE510 and I am not sure what's happening here...

1. I had to trim stock gas tank to fit the fram bracket....I dont think this is normal...i though only IMS tanks are problem...

2. I think i followed instuctions, but my pin seems to be too short... I can raise a bit and it fits in the slot on the damper, but it does not stay there...it falls back down.

any help is appreciated, i am trying to get the bike ready for sunday race...

I'm pretty sure the collar on the pin can be move down to hold the pin higher. On my GPR I had to flip the pin over, tap it with a hammer, & then flip it back over.

Yep, the collar on the pin slides up and down.

Also I had to trim my stock tank on my TXC, but not the IMS for the same bike. There seems to be quite a bit of variation from tank to tank and bike to bike.

Enjoy the damper, they rule!

Later,

run a spring under the pin, but go very light on it, the pin will wear into the damper if you go to heavy on the spring. The red fuel line is worthless, it actually somehow climbs up the pin as you ride.

Call Kelly at Motosportz and get a longer pin. I had the same issue on one of my dampers. It simply was not long enough no matter how much I slid the red rubber piece. Kelly sent a longer pin that I trimmed to the correct size. Regarding the tank interference... on older bikes the tank plastic expands a bit over time which causes the tab at the top to grow toward the steering head. Normal.

Crap, thought we weeded out all the short pins for that model, i guess not. Will send another one today. I think you can use that one but is is not right (does not engage far enough) As far as the tank and as I explained when you bought it those IMS tanks are all over the place. Sometimes you can stuck your thumb in between there sometimes it is touching the head stock. yours looks close but workable. Sorry about the pin, will get a new one to you today.

Thank you.
K

thanks,
other than the pin, everything looks correct based on the picture?

gas tank had lot of extra fat on the front...I will take another picture to show it.. i trimmed just few millimeters to make this work

yep, just make sure you realize the damper slides forward and backward in the mount and you need to center the pin in the arm slot by sliding the damper. some people miss this important info by not reading the instructions.

Oh, thats weird, never seen that issue with one of the stock tanks.

If you'll recall, I had the same issue with my 2009 TE250. I ended up using the old style collar that anchors on the tank. It's a pain because it means I have to remove the damper to remove my tank. I should probably attempt the heat/flatten/shave down the front of the tank so I can use the newer collar.

Guys,

one more question...do you have freeplay in your damper? I am pretty sure you not supposed to have any...at least i never had freeplay on any other damper i had before.

here is the test...on full max setting, i have about 2 inch of free play at handlebars... meaning there is no damping at all. after 2 inch, good amount of resistance can be felt.

I have not taking if for a ride yet, so I can't comment if this has any affect on the ride... but I am concerned.

Ok I see the problem. The new pin is not long enough still. It sits kind of high in the bottom bracket and it's not solid. It's pretty lose actually. Pin being loose translates in to soo much free play
