  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Modifying stock silencer?

Has anyone played around with opening up a '14 WR300 silencer?

I'm in Australia and the bike is road registered, so I'm guessing there some compliance gear in the stock pipe to pass road rego requirements.

Is it possible to drill out some rivets and gut the internals? I've heard there may be a washer welded in to restrict it.

Thanks!

Silencer is straight through. Can be shortened.

Pipe is also straight through unless u have the euro/ADR POS pipe on which is heavily restricted. I doubt it though as your bike wouldn't pull the skin off a rice puddin with that pipe on!

Did you get 2 pipes(expansion chambers) with the bike?

This is what it looks like when taken apart and cleaned. You have to drill out the 4 rivets on the core to pull out the core. You don't have to pull the end cap out to repack; only the front piece. I replaced the 4 rivets w/allen screws to make repacking easier. You'll need to apply heat to the ends of the alum. can to get the end pieces out. Be careful during reassembly as it's easy to pinch the o-rings on the end pieces. Again, heat the can so the end pieces slide in easier.

Cheers for the comments everyone!

It's definitely an Aus delivered bike, got no problems keeping up with 450s on the trail so mustn't be the euro expansion chamber!
It was only through Google'ing I saw the honeycomb in the pipe and washer welded into the silencer which brought about the question.

Just the one, but wouldn't have been surprised if the silencer was restricted. But it doesn't seem like it!

Cheers everyone
