• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

ML 096XX - 1975 or 1976?

I picked up a barn roach 250 CR recently. I can't quite tell from the usual frame/year charts whether this would be a 75 or 76, and this era of Husky is not my usual stomping ground. I have parts to finish it either way. It came with two exhausts, including what look like both 75 and 76 CR versions, so that didn't help! Engine is 2042 which comes up as 250CR for both years. It runs, so I'd like to just put it back together and sell it as a running rebuilder. Any help?

Id say thats a 76,ml-6000 up 1976,77's begin with a 1xxxx,78's 2xxxx. True 75 GP's begin with "00"

Thanks. If the charts said "ML-06000 and up" it'd be a slam dunk that it's a 76. That missing zero has me ??? Any other model identifiers?

I'm no expert on the 75-78 model years, but most 75-76 will have a smooth airbox cover,no raised ridge where the displacement decal sits, both have girling shocks,76 -up translucent fenders,75,76,77 Akront rims, stamped steel triple clamps. You can swap the Betor alloy triple clamps from a 73 Bultaco Pursang 175 250 350,same 35mm tubes and offset,no steering stops, add some on,good inexpensive upgrade though,IMHO.

I believe the 75-76 have the upper rear shock mounts angled down. In 77-78 they are angled up.

Ron,
Here's an action of me on my original 78 250CR, 77's are pretty much the same except no Mikuni carb, they had a Bing but with a choke.
My 78 had Girlings too.

It is definitely a 75 or 76, and I'm leaning toward 76. Mine has curnutts, tho. Doesn't mean much, as they could have been changed.

If you have to take the clutch cover off here is a way to tell. Look at the shift linkage from the shift shaft to the pivot inside the case. If there is one link arm riveted between the two it's a 75. If there are two arms it's a 76.

Thanks Evo. Interesting that they'd make a change like that and keep the 2042 engine number. I'll be in there within a few days.
