• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Ok , dont laugh, Has anyone had a hole burn thru the mid pipe ?
I have a SM610 with app 2500 mile ( new , leftover )
I heard a pop while down shifting and then hissing noice , thought i blew a doughnut gasket of some exhaust bolts loosen up. Got home , first the heat shield end was melted and a hole a little smaller than a dime , right thru the mid pipe ?

Only after a vindaloo

That sounds serious. Is the motor running real hot too? What are the headers like after a short run?

Only after a vindaloo :D

Vindaloo?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For other uses, see Vindaloo (disambiguation).

Vindaloo is an Indian curry dish from the region of Goa. It is popular globally in its Anglo-Indian form as a staple of curry house menus, often renowned as a particularly spicy dish, though it is not necessarily always the hottest available. The name Vindaloo is derived from the Portuguese dish "Carne de Vinha d' Alhos", which is a dish of meat, usually pork, with wine and garlic

Re the ACTUAL pipe, sounds more like a defect. Can't say I've heard of this (unless your headers are rusty old tubes) which is unlikely?

Ok, now waiting for my third heat shield , the new on lasted a few hundred miles , coming loose and breaking off at the tabs. WTF!

Does it run really really rich or really really lean?
Do you leave it sitting in the rain for long periods of time without cranking it?

I had the exact same thing happen to mine 2 weeks ago while riding at Deals Gap. It appears the shield bolt on the bottom at the muffler end fell out and left the upper middle bolt to carry the load. Mine broke the tab off and left a gaping hole in the pipe also. Luckily I found one from a TE on Ebay for $40. I'm going to grind off the bolt weld nuts and exhaust wrap it.

i bought exhaust wrap and ties to replace the heat shield, only to discover a hole in the bottom of my mid pipe. the local parts store might have a solution. if not, maybe an exhaust shop, as ideally, i'd like to have it patched and all of the heat shield posts removed from it. that way, i could replace all the heat shields with exhaust wrap, as the shields have done more harm than good.

I had this happen to me too. The nuts / bosses that are welded to the pipe that you bolt the shield to can crack due to vib and stress from tightening the bolts for shield. I found 2 out of the 3 on mine had cracked at the weld. I just got the mig welder and beefed up the welds. Be sure to turn the welder down when doing the one where the the pipe goes 2 to 1 as its very thin and you can burn through very easy.

i went the muffler shop route and then used wrap from the local auto parts store. stock heat shield is now eliminated.
