  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

map 3 te 449

I rang a couple of dealers in Melbourne trying to find info regarding Map3 for 2013 te 449,both dealers told me that it is possible however the bike will run like a pig because it will be too reach, and the only way to run properly is to install the full Akro system at a price i really don't want to find out.Has anyone else in Aus upgraded to MAP3 without the full Akro system and if so whats the result,or any other exhaust system

Yes, I did it with just a de-catted stock muffler. It was rich (10:1) during mid throttle and good during full throttle (12.8:1).

I'll take rich over a flameout while pulling in/out of any kind of traffic or a vital "braap" over a log or rocks etc.
I say this cuz I know from experience with the 449 before I had the Map 3.

Agreed, and when mine was 'rich' it still rode great, I did not really know it was rich till I put it on the dyno.

i hear you ,i haven't experience any flame outs (yet) i think the bike is reach enough with race map2 and Akro slip on thats why i'm a bit reluctant to upgrade to Map3 without the full exhaust system, thanks anyway

Map 3 is pretty damn good. Some say it is even a little lean, but I ran the dyno to 61hp with only map 3 running. PC5 gives you a little better control over timing and fuel, but it's not really necessary unless you can't load the maps or you are really competitively racing. Akropovic is really nicely made and is why it is expensive. Full FMF is better in my opinion at half the cost, but a FMF slip on and map upgrade will definitely do the trick.

ok Tinken thanks, thats the answer i was after ,FMF slip on and Map 3 should work wonders

Who were the people in Melbourne that could do it? They give you a price?
A1 in Ringwood ,moto gc Thomo,First class lilydale for about $90 but not really recommended as stated above, let me know how you go with if you do it,at this stage i'm in two minds

I went from 2 to Zipty map3 and it was noticeably better. I still run my JD tuner because I have it and have found I can further tweak map3 to my liking. Map3 should run good with about any exhaust, it is a very good map.

Ive posted it before but its not that hard to mod another pipe to fit the TEs. With only a little bit of work, I fitted the CRF450 titanium slip on.photo (3).JPG

I dont think I am disagreeing here - but I am not sure that even a slip on is required. Thanks to Tinkin's comments - I insisted on #3 when my 449 was in for some warranty work. All I have to say is wow! I had an arm's length list of engine complaints - namely the big flame out at JUST the wrong time. Everything vanished and the bike flat out rips. I planned on a new can, but at this point I am not sure it is really warranted. At this point, weight is the only obvious reason - but I am better suited to work out a bit more and drop five off the belly as opposed to the bike!

I run race map 3 from Zipty and full stock exhaust. No problems what so ever and it runs perfect now, maybe a little more power if a full pipe set was used but it does run great with just stock exhaust.

Have you taken the stock pipe off and weighed that boat anchor?

Map #3 with Akra slip on in "A" mode (non-race) still has issues with flameouts and lack of power. "B mode" (race map) is great!

Yes, A mode should only be considered when fuel economy is at state, like out on the tarmac.

There is a reason mine is sitting in the "junk" pile.
