    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Maiden voyage w/ my 630

Good luck with getting that sorted. I had an '06 TE610 which was a great bike for me and now have just picked up a '11 SMS630 which has the same rewarding feel. Fueling has been an immediate issue though - I think the JD Power Surge is necessary start.

Look into the Dyno Bob thread on fuel injection tuning with either the Ibeat or Power Commander, lots of good info here! I went with the Power Commander and could not be happier, previously had a JD tuner ( I had trouble getting good settings). Lots of happy Ibeat tuners using the data found in the thread. Good luck with everything else, lots of helpful and knowledgeable people on here.

Welcome Timberline. Unless you have a good relationship w/ a reputable.good dealer I'd suggest you download and run the Husky diagnostic tool called iBeat. Perhaps that will show you some fault codes that may help you get at what's causing your issues- at least it's a start. You'll also be able to adjust some settings and observe (in more detail, through the iBeat dashboard) what your bike is doing.

Please let us know what you learn. I'm still having a time starting my 630 (since the engine was put back together after a cracked case) but haven't a clue as to what's causing it. Mine's a cold start issue- hard to start cold (but fine when hot), valves are set right, clean air filter, etc. Runs like a champ also...so not sure what my issue is or where to start. It starts fine hot, but it has to be hot (if it's cooled for even an hour then I have to use the enrichener lever again.)

A mate has a 630 with red drc racing hoses . Dont know where he got them as he bought the bike second hand
 
My 610 was misbehaving with starting and opening the throttle, turned out to be a missing bolt on the exhaust header. Probably not the same issue here, but it might be worth checking. Usually they are pretty reliable starters. Never been much above 3000' though.
 
Related question: what's the adjustment screw with the rubber cap just above the temp sensor? I looked in the parts catalog and the repair manual and couldn't find it.

That is not an adjustment screw. That is a hose nipple for the smog setup. Yours has been removed and plugged with the rubber cap. It is best to remove the nipple entirely and install a stainless cap screw with red Loctite. The rubber can weather and go bad and leave the port exposed. There is info on it here on CH somewhere.
