  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Low mileage TE250 was in harescrambles...a problem?

Hey guys...new here...I've made my decision to buy a low milage TE250 but just found out it was used for a few harescrambles early in it's live..very early. Need I worry about this bike? (engine issues) The bike physically looks great and seems to run great. I really can't expect to get any more info than this (like when the oil was changed and whatnot).

It's largely dependent on how well the original owner took care of the bike and how they rode it. 700 miles is generally not a lot if they kept up with oil changes and didn't pin the rpms max for extended periods of time. Most people would say that around 500 miles is a typical break in period for an on/off road bike. Kind of depends on how much you ride on road vs off..

If it runs well and no issues starting then you are probably good to go. Make sure it's not burning oil either (blue smoke) / smell..

Also - as olderhusky stated - what year is it?

Looks like a 2008, that's a very durable engine, and 700 miles is not alot.

That was the first year of EFI, you will want to buy a JDTuner EFI box, to get it running right.

Yeah, a 2008. I think it was well maintained, and it certainly looks to be in good shape. I think it just had an aggressive welcome to the world. I just found the owners manual online, and it said "2 hours of slow riding" for break in. That's nothing really, so it was probably ridden the way someone at Husky expected it to be. Sounds like it already got an ECM reflash a long time ago...would it still need the JD Tuner?

If it got the full power-up treatment with the full race map installed (MPG should be about 35-40mpg) then it's good to go as long as doesn't have any performance issues like flame-outs or cutting out.

I get differing opinions on this. The owner says it got a different ECM flash (that was before his ownership). Others say the 2008 didn't get a flash, but instead a plug to go on the 02 sensor cable. It does have the power up kit on it.

It's pretty simple.

Just ride it slow and snap the throttle a bit like hopping over longs and such...it it runs clean doesn;t flame out and e-starts right back up when you stall it with the rear brake then it should be good.

The 08 is a very reliable bike if a touch heavier then the new ones which are much more tempremental.
