  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Loud Exhaust

Husqvarna
AA Class
Riding home on my last ride I notice that the note from my pipe had become louder, so before I pull it apart I thought that I would ask the question, has any one done this before and what are tips to do this before I start? Is it like a 2 stroker muffler that you have to repack??? My ride a TE 450 with a Arrow muffler

Cheers Kel

My 08 Arrow exhaust is nothing like that 09 shown in the links above. On the 08 I drilled 4 or 5 pop rivets on the forward side of the muffler, and pull the outer alunimim can off. the inner core is stuck to the front 1/2 of the exhaust. Then I tapped the holes (forgot what pitch) and inserted 4 (or 5) flat head Allen screws with Red lock tight. NO inside wrapper as shown above, no welding to remove.

Right- the 08 is different- the Stock 08 exhaust had a cat that you replaced entirely with the 08' PU Exhaust which was not made to work with a CAT- so you would not have the stainless inner shielding like with the 09-10s. A 08Arrow PU Exhaust is just like repacking most exhausts.

So the cat is inside the can of my stock 08? I thought it was in the header pipe ahead of the muffler joint. Mine is used so I assumed the last owner popped it out.
I do know my Arrow with spark arrestor is the same noise level as the stock muffler without the spark arrestor. I never knew the spark arrestor switched into both mufflers until I pulled the arrow to check the packing (I put stock muffler back on while I was waiting to go buy bolts to put arrow back together). Stock muffler with spark arrestor sounds great to me. But it is a good amount heaver.

My buddy is cutting me a piece that will fit into exhaust like spark arrestor, but has 3/4" ID hole with set screw do I can try to build my own baffle to bring the noise down on the Arrow.

Right. THe stock 08' TE pipe, not the PowerUP pipe, has the cat. In 2009-2010, the cats were moved from the can to the mid pipe near the joint on the can side. SO on 09-10s the "powerup" pipe was actually on the bike- you just had to remove the cat- which is easily slid out after separating the mid pipe and from the slipon/can.

That's (because if you run the cat it gets HOT) why the 09-10 have the inner stainless shell that I removed when repacking, and also why the stainless shell is not part of the 08' PU can.
