• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Licence plate light

Husqvarna
A Class
I just got my licence plate so I am beginning to reconfigure the tail section. I was planning on simply mounting the plate bellow the brake light and trimming everything bellow it, but I was curious what others have done with the licence plate light. The housing seems to only fit facing down, has anyone mounted a different housing for it, or use the wires to power anything else(cigar lighter port for a phone charger?) or just gotten rid of it?

Depending on what style light you're looking for try eBay. I got one for my R6, 3LED horizontal unit, tapped it into the stock license plate light wiring and 3M taped it to the top of my plate, gets the job done was about $5-6 shipped. They have the bolt LED style ones too, that you replace your plate bolts with and it has lights built into it.

Tried to find a link to the one I got but it's not in my history anymore, if you search "led motorcycle license light" on eBay there will be a bunch of results. The one I bought from I remember was in CA and i got it within a day or two so sort by US if you want it sooner rather than later.

I've also seen people take the stock husky plate light, modify it a bit, stick an LED 194/168/T10 bulb in there and use that.

Yessir. Mine is cut with the plate bolted right into the plastic. Nothing is legal here in CA so I'm putting in very little effort. I'm not even running mirrors until my Doubletake comes in. I just ordered a set of these bolts with LED's to light the plate...

right on thanks, im in the same boat but law enforcement in my town is pretty lenient with motorcycles so I wont have to worry about them getting mad about my tail light set up as long as its there and works

Absolutely. I'll have access to both so we'll figure it out together.

Thanks a lot. Just mounted the plate under the brake light and trimed bellow it. Really happy with how it came out and how sturdy it is, I'll have to find some of those bolt lights now to complete the look.

Ya I'm in CA as well and my bike has no mirrors, LED front blinkers, a strip 12 LED integrated tail/blinkers and my plate zip tied right below it. The taillight is plenty bright I dont know how much the plate gets though, haven't bothered looking. I might end up picking up another of those 3 LED bar ones from eBay again that I got on my R6

How are you wiring the lights in. Still have the leads from the original plate light tucked away are we using this with one light or doing two lights and using wire taps.

Most of these LED plate lights will have a positive and a negative lead that you can tap, splice, solder, etc. into existing license plate light wiring. I can't remember off the top of my head if the plate light has a separate plug on my Husky but either way should be pretty easy just use your existing plate wiring.

Can you post a picture of the license plate led strip lights?
Thanks,

Sorry for the delay man. This is the longer ram mount. The shorter one just didn't make the reach over my shoulder and in front of the bars when collapsed.

I've ridden surface streets and the mirror stays in place nicely but vibes so bad I can't see much. I don't really care- I just want to avoid getting pulled over. Could be the 50T sprocket on the back making it vibey... just a guess, haha. This ain't no street bike anyway.

Mirror options.......these Black Mamba mirrors (Langston Motorsports) are awesome, great rearward view & rock solid with zero vibration. They don't fold but great on the street.

Or

The Bikemaster Folding Mirror. Folds in, fully adjustable, and very little vibration.

The LED license plate light is the best option out there.
