• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Just got a LV :applause:
It has 3 inserts and a screen. The screen I understand.:thumbsup:

In looking at the inserts, I'm guessing that the angled one is the quiet one? And what are the other two?:excuseme:

OK, looked at the BACK side of the instructions, the short one is the quiet one, DOH!
 
I just installed mine about a week or so ago and I was wishing I could read Italian lol

I used the short one too because I wanted to use the spark arrester and it seemed that was the only one that would work with it.

I noticed a modest power increase but I can't wait to install the PU resistor that I've had on order from Hall's since the 2nd of this month. Twice now they've taken more than 3 weeks to deliver my orders with no emails or contact of any kind. I'll really have to think hard before I order anything from them again. I wish I had ordered it from Kelly at Motosportz, he gets me parts in 1 week from across the country... sorry for getting off topic, enjoy the LV!
 
Keep in mind that George (Uptite Racing) makes 610 exhausts and they are rated pretty high by those who own them and test them.

I ordered the same item from Halls on 5/6, nothing yet either.
Tomorrow I'll head over to Radio Shack and get a 45 cent resistor.:D

I tried all three and didnt notice much of a difference. I am running the smaller diameter one with the tube that runs through the flange as it seemed to be the quietest. Still not quiet enough for my tastes. I did have to cut down the tube with a hacksaw about 3\4" to fit with the arrestor screen.

I recently put a DB Dawg in my LV on my 610 and yes it is noticeably quieter with no appreciable reduction in performance but the way that it is held in with two set screws leave something to be desired. It's difficult to get the screws tight and they don't stay that way, if it weren't for the spark arrestor screen I'm pretty sure someone on the 605 frwy would have ended up with a DB Dawg in their windshield. I'm going to make a flange for the end of the LV that fits under the SA screen and weld the DB Dawg to it. I'll post some pics when it is done.
 
The shortest of the three is the quietest, and no sweat with the screen.
The DB dawg just makes the exhaust make a last turn, tack weld a strip
of steel on this short adapter cross-wise, and call it good.
 
DB Dawg Warning

I melted mine on a highway run today.
Never turned the motor over 5700 RPM.
Worked fine offroad, on road the heat got to it.

Frickin' amazing! What is it made out of?

I did the aluminum strip restrictor as a test, works fine.

How hot does it have to be to melt aluminum?:busted:
 
Aluminum, most grades can melt over 1000Deg F.
Which is not out of the realm of exhaust temps.
I had my doubts when I installed it. But figured I wasn't the first to run one.
 
Update on the fix to quiet this LV3.

Well after this little fun time of the db-dawg failure, I needed to figure out what to try next.
So I ordered up some materials.
Screen for a replacement Spark arrestor. http://www.mcmaster.com/#9238T705
And some SST sheet to make a flange for the Spark Arrestor.http://www.mcmaster.com/#88885K13

Turns out it worked well for making a baffle also.
So here is what I tried today. It is as quiet as the DB-dawg, but must flow better. The bike now has the stumbles and fluttering like with a open LV3.
I have a Iridium plug to change to first. If that doesn't fix it, time to go to the power up plug.

I found that my bike ran poorly with just the LV can.

The removal of the lambda with the resistor mod and the iridium plug and the home made LV restictor all together made the bike run great. It seems to run better with the restrictor in place than without it. :thumbsup:

Yes, basically a glass pack. It's still a straight through with the restrictor just a bit smaller diameter.

Thanks:thumbsup: That was the last piece to my puzzle. I'm going to dyno my stock bike tomorrow night. Then open up the air box, install the power-up/resistor, recore the stock exhaust with a straight-through-baffle and slight restrictor, and re-dyno it.

WOW, What a difference. Changed to the powerup plug and it is nice.
No bobbling, it will pull you along at an idle now.:thumbsup:
I still need to put the Iridium plug in, I didn't pull the tank all the way off this time. Just enough to get to the 02 sensor.

The NAPA plug was under $4. here. I also got a copper washer to seat the plug in.
Radio shack was out of resistors, so I stopped by a local electronics supply. They cost me two times what RS wanted but they are also a better quality.:cheers:

Now to see how my mpgs will be affected:excuseme:
 
The ones they had where an industrial shielded 2.2K OHM 1/2watt 2% error.
For $2 for 5pcs. Really broke the bank.
