• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Left kicker only 610 TE wont start when hot + wiring issue

Marek Sniager

Husqvarna
Hi all. I have recently bought Husky TE 610 - 1999.. It is most probably 1999/2000. It is left kick only - no e-start.. I have been driving it only few times and just a few miles offroad mostly.
It has number plates and all the lights, however it has never up till now passed the technical inspection of vehicles as it was always used offroad only.

I have found it easy to start WHEN COLD and the bike is going really well. It has awesome power and I am very satisfied, but it is dying on the IDLE and when the engine is already hot - it is very hard or even impossible to start.
- It doesn't have the decomp lever and I am new to kickstarting completely - even though I can start it easily on the 2nd or the 3rd time when cold Usually...
{It doesn't 'kicking me back' - the kickstart - as I would normally expect from the 570cc engine}.

- So I wanted to ask u guys 'If U know what can be a problem with this Hot start/kick ?' - I have read many posts on AVDriver and here - but mostly everyone talks about E-start610 .
The valves on the bike will be checked { I know it should be 0.10 in and 0.15 ex in mm} - now the carb {delorto 40} will be cleaned { I will have it in 2 days} So I will see then, and another point was also that when I changed the oil I it was a nightmare black dirty color and definitelly less than a liter of it as it was leaking from some part under { gasket need to replace}. I put nearly 2 litres of fresh 5-20W synt oil and I also bought HF154 oil filter but I don't see nowhere on the bike where does it belongs { maybe it doesn't have oil filter? Is that posible?}.

Another big issue is that the bike has been approved to be legally driven with number plates and all the lights/ turn signals / etc... however there is only 1 thin cable coming out from the engine and it seems to my friend 'mechanic' {where the bike is at the moment} that the alternator on this bike is not ready for that much power destinations to supply { he mentioned that there is only 15Amps coming as from the power source/ alternator} ..
So - Does anyone knows what to do with this wiring street legal - not enough 'power 1 cable situation'?

Was this bike actually competition bike and someone somehow got it on the 'paper street legal' in none-legitamate way?

Thanks for all the responses beforehand...

Hi Marek,

It might pay to read this post, also there is a lot of information available on this site.

http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/phm-40-ms-carb-fuel-air-mixture-settings.32574/

This is all about the Dellorto carb you have, the problems to look for, and the problems with the Ducati ignitions, bad windings and slipping magnet belts in the flywheel, this post also has links for manuals, you need a workshop manual for your bike, it is invaluable for you or your mechanic friend.

If my bike won't start when it is hot, I use the cold starting procedure in this post.

Your bike should have mesh filters and they are washable, you then use 1.6 lts of oil.

The oil filter you bought is most probably for a electric start bike or a later model.

5w-20 is two thin, 5w-40 is in the manual, but you need a conrod saving oil, a thicker oil, I use Belray Thumper oil a Synthetic Ester blend, 15w-50, using this oil the motor also sounds a lot quieter.

I have also seen 15w-60 recommended for long conrod life.

Wiring looms on bikes aren't easy but if you take your time you can work it out.

Here is my updated wiring diagram, the factory diagram has mistakes which I have corrected, the wiring diagram is for my bike a 2001 model with Ducati ignition, which should be the same as your bike.

I just found three more mistakes, (6) should be instrument lights, and (7) key switch it's missing and my bike being a TE doesn't have (10) parking lights.

Cheers,
DaveM.

Ok - so it iS ALL DONE. THE BIKE STARTS AT 3RD OR 4TH TIME WHEN COLD and directly when I kick it when hot.. even with a right foot standing apart from the bike. There was indeed some problem with a carburator - those floaters wasn't evenly placed / adjusted.
One issue: Does anyone knows what can be the problem with the horn? - it doesn't really making sound - When I press the button it makes just a little 'peep' which one can't even hear.. I bought another horn of the same size - but makes no difference.. simply the sound is so weak - that I cannot pass with it technical inspection.

Any ideas ? cables seems to be ok
Cheers

Hi Marek,

I am glad to hear you are getting on top of the problems with your bike.

With the horn it may be in the switch, the contacts may need cleaning.

Cheers,
DaveM.
