• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Labor Day in the Woods ~ Single-track on the 511~

Had plans to head up the hill with my Nephew on Labor Day but the kid backed out saying his
DRZ wasn't running right. Teenagers.......:banghead: When I was 18 you couldn't pry me away from my
bike. Of course we didn't have X Box or smart phones back then.
So I went riding solo. Me, myself and I and we had a pretty cool day of riding on some very cool
trails. It was raining off and on while driving up but the trails were still dry and dusty.

Hard to judge the hill climb at 7:24 on the lower video. Seems like you need a lower gear for that kind of work, do you run stock CS sprocket? How was your coolant temps?

It's actually a lot steeper than it looks on video. The CS is stock and I've got a 48 on the rear. You're right though, lower gearing would make it a little better
for the woods stuff but the problem is a lot of times I will be riding single-track for the most part but will have to hop on a mountain highway for a stretch and this
close ratio tranny doesn't like the highways much. The 15/48 has actually worked pretty well but does require a little more clutch work in the really tight stuff.
This motor has so much torque so you can chug along even in second, which is the gear I'm in most of the time except the really tight or steep spots like
where you pointed out.

Yes, much different than my 14/52s, but I don't do a lot of highway riding. How's your coolant temps at those low speeds?
