  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

KTM OR HUSKY

Being new to dirtbikes as far as riding them go , out here ktm is all anyone talks about , never been on a ktm , and I know alot of you guys have ridden them all , is ktm that much better than husky. thanks for your input.

True , just hear alot of ranting and raving about how much better they are , can t really say anything but ----off cause I have never been on one , appriciate your response mnb.

The only KTM I've ever ridden was an older 525EXC and that was years ago. The motor seemed pretty impressive but I wasn't too impressed with the
handling and overall feel. I'm sure everything has changed since then but I can't imagine even the new ones handle as good as my 511. I am very intrigued
with their 300 two strokes.

Own KTM 525 MXC which is the same as an exc without the turn signals, tail lights, etc. Has 8" race lights though. Great bike, one of the best engines they have made to date, dependable, torque monster for desert racing. I have 6000 hard race miles on it, won't leave you stranded. Also have had a 300 XC-W, not a bad bike, fast, light weight, squirley, does not have solid ride feeling a Husky has. Would not buy one ever again.

Also, new Husky's are not the same as their orange counter parts. They feel different, solid feeling. The FC501 is very close to a 511 with the exception that it is a hundred percent more stable. You will see in the shoot outs that they run and handle differently. Unfortunately they did inherit some of the orange bike issues, but we already have mods to fix them and make them very reliable.

well, have to ask, with the same platform, i.e.: chassis, engine, forks and husaberg rear suspension, exactly how much different is it going to feel ? and the husky is going to cost more according to the big cheese in austria.

That's assuming that everything you listed there was the same across the platform which they are not.

New husky's have linkage and different forks vs. XC-W's equivalent. Riding the linkage KTM's vs. PDS all revalved for the woods, I like the linkage ones better. If I was looking at buying a KTM for the woods, I would get the Husky just for the linkage and color! Forks,,, well some love the 4CS and others think they are just as bad a all the WP stuff.

I agree. Same with Husabergs. they feel different. the seating position alone makes a big difference on how a bike handles. The fiber subframes and positioning are much different from ktm. It's not the materials they're made from that makes the diff. it's the dimensions

I'm glad you posted that. I'm looking for a dedicated (2T) woods bike and it's come down to Husky WR250/300 or KTM 250/300XCW or EXC. Can't afford new and after
scouring craig's List for the past couple months the only thing I do know for sure is KTM owners seem to think that their bikes are made of gold. I'm just not willing to
shell out 4 or 5 grand on a bike that's 7 - 8 years old . A used WR is looking very sweet to me.

Oh, hail no! :D
Thats why I have a Husky and a Beta. KTM is to main stream, like the VW bus at an old Grateful Dead show.
Now that Husky is owned by KTM they are HusabergKTM>Husqvarna's. They might be all Husqvarna again in a couple years.
the KTM 350 ??? (dual sport one FI) is a blast to ride. Best KTM I have ever swung a leg over.

I've been strictly KTM for the last five model years-the one I have now is the '12 450 XCW. That's the sweetest 450 motor I've ridden as far as technical trails are concerned; super smooth and linear with no hiccups. Now I've also got the TE310 and after riding it exclusively for the last 6 mo's I was really suprised at how different the KTM felt when getting back on it-though I think a big part of that might be that the TE has a smaller 250-sized frame....? Anyway, they're both great bikes. I like the 310 better in the technical stuff just because it's lower to the ground. Motor-wise, the 350 might just be the ticket (not too hot, not too cold, juuuust right!)

Two good friends have KTM 350's. One has the XC one has the W. Same basic bike but one has linkage and different motor and suspension specs. They could not be more different. Does not even feel like the same brand. I was shocked. The XC has way more power and better suspension for me.
