  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Kickstarter/fuel tank Q's

Husqvarna
AA Class
I know a few riders have bought the parts but has anyone actually installed and started their big single yet? I did close to 8 K through Baja on my kick-less 690 and with the latest battery technology getting 300 amp/8K mAp starter batteries down to 9 oz, I'm questioning my obsession with the kicker. I love having one on my 525, but only had to use it a few times when my battery was on the way out. Anyway, interested to hear from anyone who has installed one on their 501 and used it.

And, if you put a kick starter on, you probably put a bigger tank on too. Wondering how the Acerbis 4.1 affects the bike. I'm getting 42 mpg, the 3.1 is cutting it a little close for comfort. I"ll probably just keep a 4.1 set up and ready for longer rides and use the stock for my short days rides, though I wish the stock was a 3.1. Sheesh, some people are just plain hard to please.

I've done 3 of the so far, all on 501's. The kit is very easy to install with detailed instructions if you need them. Have some loctite handy, pans to dump oil and coolant, and about 1.5hrs if its your first time. I will say it is probably the "most effort needed" bike I've ever had to kickstart, but it beats walking...

I take that back, the Forwarding kicking, balls smasher, VOR is the hardest bike I've ever had to kickstart!!

Thanks for the info. I have tools and it does beat walking out. I had one of the first 1995 Husaberg 501 imported after the split with Husky. It could be tricky but if you sequenced it just right, I could start it with a stout flip-flop to quiet the complainers. Man have they improved their line
