  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Kick start conversion

Gday champions,

I want to know if it is possible to add a kickstarter to my te511 2011 model. I know the 2009 model had both elec and kickstart.
I seem to be struggling to roll start my bike in the event of a flat battery, i have heard this is because the efi takes to many revolutions of the engine to prime itself. I have even tried roll starting it with ignition on, then tapping the starter switch as i drop the clutch.
Does such a conversion exist?

No conversion that I know of. I had the same poor cranking issue with my 449 and the stock battery. I bought a new shorai lithium battery after the suggestion of several people and it has cranked well ever since 3 years ago.

the 449/511 never had a kickstarter. 510's did- completely different motor.

On later keyless te511s, you have to flash the start button to activate the ECU when bump starting. I don't think that's true on your first-year model.

just a guess- you may have a bad check ball (anti-drain back) in your fuel pump, or a crack in the submersible fuel line or filter.

Thanks for the advice. I think the first thing to do is fork out some money for a high end battery.

My te is definitely keyed and i was flashing the starter when trying to bunp start but it may be worth checkin out the fuel pump. Thanks again.
