  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Just joined the cafe, because bought my new (demo) 2013 TE449

Well, I have been looking for a modern dual sport (sold my 1986 Honda XL600R earlier this year), and saw a what I thought was a killer deal in craigslist.

RIDE MOTORSPORTS in Woodinville, WA had a 2013 Demo with 397 Miles for $4990, out the door I paid $5713.77. Full Warrantee.

I looked it over and most of the plastic is scratched, some badly, and a small tear in the seat. Oh well I won't feel bad, when I put in the first scratch.

I didn't test ride it until I got home, even so the round trip took 6-1/2 hours (SEATTLE TRAFFIC GRRR) with two ferry rides to get it.

When I got at 7:30PM 30DEGF, I took it for a test ride and love it. The race jumper was already installed from the dealer.

I did notice however, that the right side of the engine, where I assume the timing chain is, is quite loud, it sounds like the timing chain is loose, is this normal?

Anyway, thanks for your help and comments.

Gerry.

P.S. Brand New to Husqvarna and to this forum.

Already went trail riding for and hour this morn, kinda chilly out but a blast. I still notice the engine sounds kind of loose>normal? Thanks.

My new bike is noisy with the clutch out in neutral I think. Clacka clacka clacka. Kind of like my ducati but very very quiet. It is noticeable.

What does loose mean? Dose it feel like the clutch is slipping? When I get on it in 1-3rd it just spins the knobby tire. I thought my clutch was slipping until I saw in 20 miles I had ate the front edge of the knobs off all around the tire :) A little pull on the bars and it can wheelie in 1-3 easy enough.

Mostly I notice the noise, at idle in neutral. It might be the clacka-clacka, but definitely NOT quiet. Also, I notice noise if I am NOT QUITE lugging the engine, but when RPM up to speed or coasting down in gear, nice and quiet. Could very well be I am hyper-sensitive with the new noises til I get used to them. If I remember I went through this same wondering of noises with my previous bike.

"Can you describe the ruckus, sir?"
Lol just jokin but maybe you can post a vid of the sound?

I think you are hearing the same as me. I am not concerned. Also if you lug the engine these bikes seem to make a lot of racket. Scared me the first time.

Ran into another NEW TO ME, but known problem. The dang gas cap is virtually impossible to remove with cold hands, then impossible to install correctly. I did a search and there was discussion of aluminum ones, google search shows $67.09 for one. Is there a cheaper option? What have you all done to alleviate this problem?

As far as the noise, I am going to ignore it for a while, and when I get a chance stop by the dealer and listen to another running.

The clutch is noisy on this bike, I guess due to it being mounted on the Crank Shaft. Probably normal. You can get a nice plug and play key switch from Sicass Racing
http://sicassracing.com/store/products/switches/key_switches/2011-12_husky_te449-511_key_switch and possibly others.
Get a Seat Concepts seat foam and cover if you get sick of the torn cover on the 2X4. http://seatconcepts.com/products#!/~/product/category=1671357&id=7268076 Might get a CafeHusky discount too as they are a sponsor.
You need that Gas Cap. I kept complaining to my dealer until he sent me one at no charge. If that does not work, buy it from your Husky Dealer or one of the other dealer vendors on this forum such as Bills or Halls. Look into the rest of the vendors section of this forum, especially Tinken at Zip Ty and Kelly at Motosportz for help and accessories, they are both extremely helpful and great guys!

An organized suspension section sorted by model would be a great resource. Those of us that are unable to decode the black magic of suspension tuning could benefit largely from this.
