  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Just brought one home...mods? Of course, but which ones?

Biggziff

Husqvarna
A Class
Brought home an 09 TE510 that appears to be about as close to new as you can get. It has the following on it already:

Old Fat Guy Racing rad guards
Renazco seat
Fork bleeders
Highway dirt bike hand guards with the built in LED signals and fold away mirrors
Tiny LED rear signals
Aftermarket engine bash plate (Not sure which one is on there)
PC V (no auto tune)
Power Up
Some fancy schmancy Li Ion battery that weighs like 6 ounces

I think that's it. Any other "must have" mods for these bikes?

Thanks

Sounds like the bike is mostly good to go! If it still has the plastic "tee" in the coolant line behind the left rad I'd call Up-tite husky and get the cast aluminum "Y." Also Up-tite has a stainless steel front axle nut. Husky makes a high flow water pump for that year thats def worth the $30 they charge for it. This may be the biggest "must have"...a decent headlight, the Husky one is horrible. That's all I can think of for now. Congrats and post some pics!

What's the deal with the stainless axle nut? Stainless is softer than most steel so I'd think that would be a bad thing. Or is the stock nut worse than that?

I've read about the water pump update. Is that just the impeller or also a new cover? Has anyone verified that the higher flow actually cools better? Most cooling systems are designed for a certain rate of flow. Flow too much and the coolant doesn't have enough contact with the rads to transfer heat. This is why removing the thermostat in a car will often cause the car to run hotter. The T-stat acts as a restriction to help regulate the flow.

Thanks!

The stock nut is aluminum.

Nuts should be softer than the bolt, so harder is not always better.

Aluminum...wow...I'll add that to the list of things to order. I don't know that I'll buy stainless, but a dipped steel nut ought to do the trick. I'd assume that the axle is very, very hard, but aluminum for the nut?

Thanks!

You dont need the axle nut, just go to the hardware store and buy a allen wrench for it, 12 mm if I remember correctly. Sears has them for 6 bucks.

With regards to the water pump the kit comes with the impeller and the housing. I haven't personally verified it but word is the 2010s came stock with an upgraded impeller over our 2009s so obviously there was a need.

How about the fork springs and rear spring? Anyone know what weight rider they're spec'd for? I'm guessing 165-185. Where to buy new springs?

thanks
