  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I was reluctant to buy one - especially after buying a new Husky, but I am sold. As some of you assured me, it not only fixed my stalling issues on bottom, but it gave it a lot more grunt. I'm ready to ride!

Ditto. Made a huge difference out of the box on my TE250, and I haven't even finished dialing it in yet. Best farkle I've bought yet..

Were you guys' bikes powered up before you got the tuners? I read somewhere that I should set the tuner to a 4 on all dials if I get one for my powered up 450

Jake

What exactly was the setting that cured your stalling issue?Im happy with my power with the akropvic and race map 2 but id like it to not stall.Iff itl fix that ill be gettin one :)

Like you, I had an Akra, without the o2 sensor and in "power up" position. It stalled badly at random times because it was too lean. I bought the JD tuner and had it installed. When I started the bike and checked the tuner, it was already programmed to a pre-set setting for bikes with an aftermarket pipe. It was an instant fix. I gained throttle response, the bike does not stall, and I gained a lot of motor. With some tinkering, I'm sure it could be even better. Get one - I'm telling you, you will NOT regret it!

It was powered up with an Akra pipe. 4's across the board might be a safe bet (?). However, there are recommended settings for different sitiuations...i.e. aftermarket silencer, etc.

The only time my 449 has stalled with the JD Tuner installed is when I was testing it out and had most of he settings up around 7. My current settings work a treat with Akro pipe in race map 2 mode.
Green 3/4, yellow 4/5, red 5/6, green/blue 2/3, yellow/blue 4, red/blue 7.
Very very happy with bikes performance.

My former TXC 449 did not have a JD tuner and would stall a lot. With the tick over turned up the stalling was a lot less. The power of the TXC449 compaired to my new TE449 with JD tuner is much the same. However, my dealer did alter the settings on the TXC via the diagnostics on his computer. If this has the effect of tuning like the JD tuner i'd be interested in any opinions from those with this kit. The TXC i believe runs a different ECU to the TE. Before this post is taken out of context i've only ridden the TE once in tight woodlands. The stalling issue is way better than the TXC so thats one good reason for buying it. I will ride the TE on a more open course in the next week and will post my findings. The JD tuner is a good buy in my opinion.

since im going to be buying a EFI tuner of some sort, i figured ima shoot my question in here real quick ;-) if you guys don't mind...

i ve had my smr 510 since april, nothing but stalling issues in between shifts as soon as the engine got warmer, and very rough idle all around the board. I m currently going through the broken transmission and engine as its all torn apart, and will be ditching the stock pipes for a single FMF PowerCore 4, together with a TE 510 mid pipe. All the folks i ride with run their bikes with Power Commander's and speak highly of it and all its settings and improvements it brought with it.

Would you say that the JDtuner thats roughly 50 bucks cheaper then a PowerCommander 5 be enough of an improvement to optimize power and settings for the bike or should i spend the extra 50 bucks and read up on the PCV ?
i m not looking into cheap upgrades, even tho i am not going to buy no 1500 dollar exhaust system to reach the same thing then a single fmf can give me... so if the PCV for 50 bucks more gives me a better performance and optimization then the jd tuner, please bring solid points about the pro's and con's of each if you could.

thanks in advance

I think to get the most out of a power commander you will also need the auto tune wich will set you back some more from the reports I have seen. We (motosportz)have a special for cafe husky members right now (you can find in the motosportz forum) where the JD fueler is 189.95 for the holidays. The JD unit should eliminate the stalling and stumbling low end. You will be able to tweak it yourself to fit your taste pretty easily. Motosportz mike.

im waiting to see what my ibeat does this weekend, then seriously considering the JD box as it is switch on the fly (ina way) box for fueling...but im in hawaii with no dealer support so i can help my friends out too! big seller for me.

hmmm, i didn't really want to grab that auto tune module, as its just too much money for what i need in the end. I won't be able to buy that box anytime this year, so i guess i will have to hit ya up somewhere down the road. Thanks for pointing that out tho!

- kinda stuck in the same situation, closest dealer is 150 miles away, and they told me that they cant tweak no settings on the bike itself as they don't have the utilities to do so :( bummer, so the next closest shop would be all the way up in ATL, which is where i should have bought my bike in the first place, i believe its bmw ducati and husky of atlanta, a lot of good rep in forums and such.

What is the stock pipe on my 2011 TE250 and what is the best but not break the bank after-market pipe? I'd like to lose some volume and style points are always nice. My JD kit goes on after the new pipe.

I had the JD tuner installed on my 450te with the stock pipe and the bike felt like she had an extra 10-15% increase of power(seat of the pants dyno). Last week I installed the FMF Q slip on silencer and I did not feel any increase of power, I wasn't expecting any, however the sound output with the FMF is easier on the ears at idle.

I just boltled on a Tc250 pipe on my TE.

The performance is about the same but it is TI and about 5lbs lighter than stock.

It is also much quieter than stock with the SA out....but a little less powerful than the super loud stock pipe W/O S/A.

I beleive the stock TE SA fits the TC pipe also.

I could be mistaking, but with power comander V , I believe you can adjust ignition timing .... It's a serious must have if you want max hp from your bike everywhere in power curve...

Has anyone had any luck with the iBeat tuning software to eliminate this stalling issue? I would rather not install a JD tuner if you can modify the efi settings make it work.

So I put on the JD tuner due to all the praise given on this site.
It has been crummy weather, today driving home from work it actually stopped raining.
Welllllllll as soon as I got home I jumped on my TE449.
For once a product delivered.:applause:
Still have stock exhaust even so this is great!
Very pleased:cheers::lol:
I have posted before and it still holds true. the more I ride my bike the more I like it

One of the best things about the JD Tuner, is that it is virtually FOOLPROOF.

While the Power Commander is very configurable, the adage "With great power comes great responsibility" applies.
One or two experienced folks have seriously cooked their motors through incorect configuration of the PC maps.
