  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

JD Tuner on the TE511

HOORAY!
I received the JD tuner today, it came fast in the mail, And with all the zip ties and super sticky Velcro needed to to a really slick install. I didn't take pictures of the install, but I'm sure they are on the forum some where?

I've noticed a nice power increase in the mid and top end. I'm still running the stock exhaust, I have the Tuner set to the stock exhaust setting, but I don't feel like the motor is revving any higher. I have 327 miles on the bike. Will it gradually increase a little as it breaks in?

For you that are running FMF's do I need a Mega Bomb manifold too? or is the slip on to the stock manifold good enough to run the JD at the highest setting? I'm trying to keep the noise down if possible? I like how it sounds now . Is it possible to just remove the CAT, and crank up the Tuner? I definitely don't want to push it too far, Don't get me wrong the bike works great as is. (But you know how it is, I want as much as I can get safely!)

Also, Re: The rear sprocket, What will a 48 or 46 tooth sprocket give me? With the JD alone I noticed the bike would do 70-80 much easier on the freeway. I'd like the bike to run nice at 70-75 on the freeway, but still be able to run most single track trails well.

I'd love a little more juice in 4th and 5th, Would a tooth change achieve that affect?

The MotoSportz Dampner should be here any day! I'm not happy looking like willy the wale passing big rigs at 69 mph on the freeway, the whips take some fun out of it!:oldman:

I would suggest getting an aftermarket exhaust to get the most out of the motor. The ultimate setup would probably be an FMF Megabomb with
a 4.1 muffler but the cheaper route is the Powercore 4 muffler.

I have the JD, powercore 4 slip on, and a 46T in the rear. I took off the smog stuff and O2 sensor. I don't think you can go much bigger than the stock header. I was going to De Cat the stock muffler, but thought against it in case the Air Cops in California fully take over the government and start probing exhausts or something else crazy.

I think the wheelies are a little harder from 3rd on with the 46T. This is my first high revving 4 stroke (only have 2-smokers, raptor 700, and my wife Z400 quad), so cruising at 70 still seems a little high in the rpm range for me (For long periods of time), but I haven't had any kind of problem doing it. But I do know that my buddies modded 525 didn't have anything more when we both pinned it from about 40 mph to almost 90 mph. And it still seems to do well it the tight-twisty-steepies in first.

You can get an over-sized header, but it is not recommended unless high rpm power is all that is needed. The FMF Megabomb is much better because it is tuned to provide back pressure at low rpm's like a longer TE header pipe, yet flow freely at high rpm's like a TC header, increasing power in both the lower and higher rpm's. The factory 4.1 will definitely produce the highest power, but will not be suited for areas where decibel meters are used. The FMF Q4 will provide excellent power and still pass the 96dB limit on federal highways and off road races/areas.

I just test road my 15-45t gearing today. My opinion is if you want to run 70 down the freeway get the smallest rear sprocket you can. 55 is a good cruise with a 45t IMHO. With a JD tunner and FMF 6th gear stand up wheelies are a breeze in the #3 lane on the highway but a 70 mph cruise will put you in the upper revs.
