  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Jd Jetting And Fuel Consumption??

A Class
Finally got around to putting the kit on my 2011 TE 250. Took out and noticed that it sucked a lot of gas. Like 30 miles hammering in the dirt to empty?? I have it on the factory setting of 4. Have not really played with the settings yet. Bike ran great.. way better more immediate throttle.. smoother. No stalling and the exhaust seemed quieter. Anyone else have similar experience?

4s shouldn't change it from how it was before. If it sucks more gas set to 4s across the board, something is definitely wrong.

If all your settings are at 4, that's like having no JD Tuner at all. Shouldn't affect gas milege or performance. You might have a problem with something else.

My bike seems to hog down the fuel with the JD tuner and 10 port injector. I continue to try to lean it down without performance losses and so far seems to be working. If it doesn't it'll be a problem come race season.

Aside from whether or not 4s are richer than your stock settings, here's my take on rich running Husky EFI bikes: My 450 was PoweredUp and was set to pretty darn rich. I have never needed to used the choke/enrichener to start it cold, just hit the button and away we go. The rich setting keeps the engine cooler than normal, which causes the ECU to keep it rich (water temp doesnt get hot because of no thermostat) which keeps the bike cool, which keeps the mixture rich, etc etc etc. I had to make some shutters to get my bike to retain some heat at road speeds.

Odd---I used the JD tuner for most of last season and several Hare Scamble and didn't have any issues on my TE310. I recently added the upgraded ECU and 12 port but haven't raced it or really ridden it hard so hopefully fuel consumption isn't an issue. With just the JD unit, I needed one fuel stop at the hour mark and things were fine (B class)

The JD tuners adds or removes fuel off the base map at 10% increments. The EFI huskys all run very lean stock. If you add fuel to make it run right it gets worse milage. Simple. You are making more power / it is running right (not super lean) so thats what you have. Buddy with a TE310 is also struggling with this. I think we are going to get the $100 08 replacement fuel pump, build a small aluminum box like George from up-tite did for the 610 and get the pump out of the fual tank. Then you can run the 3 gallon 125/250F IMS tank and get all 3 gallons out of it instead of a tiny tank full of EPA crap.

BTW when is husky going to get off their asses and build real tanks for us in 3-4 gallon ranges? WTF****************************************

OK.. thanks. I guess I need to do some more research. I really did not know a by-product of the kit was much increased fuel consumption. Key info I over looked I guess. I was used to getting 100-120 miles a tank for my desert rides and if that is going to be cut in half I will have a JD kit for sale.

So let me see if I understand correctly... you installed a JD tuner and kept your settings like there is no JD tuner installed at all... and you are getting worse gas mileage? If that is true, something is wrong. As others have said, if you adjust the JD tuner for richer settings, common sense says you are using more fuel. If you like having better performance at the expense of slightly less mileage (like 99.9% of riders), the JD tuner is your friend. If you're satisfied with a stock bike... sell the tuner. My TE 449 tuner settings are richer across the board and my mileage is only slightly worse... :excuseme:

I have an '11 TE310 and run the JD tuner at the recommended (not pass through) settings. Runs great. I get a low fuel warning between 52 and 60 miles.

Sounds about right.

- My TE511 gets about 4-5 mpg less with the JD but gained a ton of power and runs perfect.

Call JD, I think pass through might be 3 on those bikes. Also my buddies 310 ran better with leaner settings for the idle and maybe green. Don't really know where he is on it now. How do you ride? Slower woods stuff or faster open on the throttle stuff. Whichever it is go leaner on that setting (Green for slower woods riding etc.) until it does not run good and then go back some. Basically try to run leaner settings in the ranges you tend to use the most.

Interesting...

Thanks for all the response. I am going to finally have some time to play with the settings this weekend. I need to figure it out tho as I am doing a long desert ride and need to know my range. I do notice that I do not need to use the choke lever to start it as I did before the tuner went on. The bike does run better at idle. Might need to throw some extra fuel in a plastic water bottle for the ride just in case..
