  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

J D Tuner experience 511

Husqvarna
AA Class
Breaking the cardinal rule of doing one change at a time, I feel I wasted $220. It was after ordering the J D tuner , that I learned how to put my 2012 511 txc into map #2. Without a test ride I installed the tuner then went on a ride . The flame outs were by far fewer , but their was new issues. A new hesitation or hole if you would, at around 2000 rpm and about 4500 rpm. I was set at the recommended settings with aftermarket exhaust. I then went on a four day trip at higher elevation where the new problems were magnified and experienced the wide open dead throttle. I put the tuner in neutral { settings all at 2 } The dead wide open throttle happened once more right away but not since, The other hesitations are gone. If anyone has had issues with the PC V please post here Thanks! I ask because I think that is my next move?

The pcv + autotune is the real solution. I have heard quite a few complaints against the JD tuner, even permanent damage like what you listed above.

I run a JD on my '11 TXC511 in Map2 mode (plug in) and it works great using the standard JD settings, stock pipe. Its not perfect, but way better than any carburetor Ive ever encountered.
No way you could get me to ride without it. I am about to add the TC airbox lid to see how it responds to that.

Your mileage may vary as the saying goes.

That said, the PCV offers a much wider range of tuning adjustments, or the reflash by Zip Ty may get you a better result.

You could put the bike on the dyno to see what the air fuel is actually doing and tune it accordingly. Its guesswork without that.

ascribner,

What exhaust/muffler are you using with the PCV + AutoTune? Does AutoTune require an 02 sensor in the headpipe before the muffler? I have not seen a performance exhaust/muffler with an 02 bung. Tinken, any advice on this?

Thanks.

I welded my O2 autotune sensor in right after the megabomb expansion chamber on my FMF header. I am using the Factory 4.1 rct silencer. I am using the Zipty factory map in mode A and the Burson map in mode B.

There it is. Less than an hour. Awesome. Can't thank you enough for your contributions to this board. Husky/BMW/KTM/Stephan Pierer/whoever, somebody should be paying you for the value add to the brand. Thanks again.

I believe Zip-Ty does R&D for Husky.....so in a sense they are paying for value added

What header are you using ? I just got the Auto Tune installed although I'm still using stock header. I just took the header to a welder with the bung provided
for the AT and he cut out the old O2 sensor and welded the new (larger) bung in and did a really nice job.

Now, my bike ran perfect with just the PCV but everyone says the Auto Tune is a must so I went and got one but it's not like you notice the difference
when riding. I really am intrigued with the Mega Bomb/ Factory 4.1 set up but I'd like to hear some feedback from someone who's done that to their 511 or 449.
Is it "the shit" as in good shit. Is it a lot better than the Power Core ? I'm just day dreamin' at this point but I am curious. Do I really need any more power than
I've already got ? No, but I think I'm addicted to buying stuff for my bike. Probably should seek help.:banghead:

You need to run your auto tune for a while and then save the map and run again, and again, etc. After a while, you can set the auto tune to only make adjustments 5% in either direction. Are you running the stock map?

The Mega Bomb/ Factory 4.1 set up is excellent, feels like the difference between a 449 and 511. Adds additional bottom end to the already torqy 511 engine. But can be a hassle tracking down the tc449 header parts.

Pulled the J D today an went back to the dealer. They called JD He said he's never heard of those issues. Its been my experience anytime they say that; it's a common complaint. He was polite and said send it back , he would test it. So it might be a bad unit? Will post when I hear from him.

Should I be able to hit the limiter in 6th with a JD and a full Ti Akra which has customised internals and header with expansion can? The bike has standard sprockets and maxes out at 102 mph

As far as I know with stock gearing ~100 mph is right around redline. Sounds like she's dialed in.

Do a lot of other people have the wide open dead throttle problem? I occasionally have it (once every hundred miles or so). It only happens when I am doing some "spirited riding" and I go from no throttle at all to full throttle instantly. If i get the dead throttle I usually let off and gas it again and it's fine. Just for kicks I held it open the other day and it just sat there and sputtered for ~5 seconds until I finally let off. Really strange. So it's because of the tuner? I need to remember to do a TPS reset more often, it seems like it gets outta whack pretty easily.

Oh, also it took me a while to get my JD settings where I like them, but the recommended settings from JD were pretty close. I am actually using rearwheelin's settings and they seem to be right on. I have never had flameout issues and it lugs from idle great. I have a 41 tooth rear sprocket so that's saying something. Not sure how fast, but I hit 96 with stock gearing so with the 41 I would guess ~110.

Husqvarna claims it is caused by the tuner. Mecanically, it could be the TPS sensor going out.

Thanks for your reply. Ive had this dead throttle experience twice in the last 1000miles, dont know what caused it im just pretending it never happened. Also just came back from a ride after drilling some holes in the air box lid seems to have made a little difference... a bit smother without these ^^^ "hesitation or hole if you would, at around 2000 rpm and about 4500 rpm" ^^^
