  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Is it normal for 2010 tc250 with less than 10 hours to burn 200ml oil hour

Pedec

Husqvarna
Pro Class
My tc250 is burning 200ml oil a hour what could cause this on a bike with low hours. I have only put 2 hours on bike myself so far but need to know if it safe to keep riding or is there a chance of doing more damage. Bike seems to start good and run fine. It will blow blue on start up a bit and exhaust pipe has sooty build up on inside and outside around end cap. It very disappointing in that I do enjoy bike as I posted earlier but this can not be normal the motor only holds 900ml. I am only using bike for motorcross and can not see myself doing this much damage to motor in 2 hour use. Any help would be great thanks.

They do burn a little oil if worked hard but 200ml seems excessive to me in that space of time. We see bikes needing 100ml after a days racing so yours maybe needs some attention. 200ml lost out of a total of 900ml is over 20% of the oil it holds and you run the risk of doing serious damage...

Mine does not smoke or leave any residue and does not seem to use sgnificant oil, but it does not see a lot of rpm in the woods. Have not heard any other complaints, sorry to hear you may have a problem.

Bike is rode in the mid to upper rpms on track but not abused with hitting rev limiter I am not that fast of rider only c class rider. Like I said before bike has very low hours starts and runs great. Would a compression test tell me anything and what should it be. Thanks for the input I am hoping it a plugged vent line or something small.

Compression test probably won't help as it sounds like you have good compression but maybe a bad oil ring...

I took bike for about 1 hours riding at track and it burned 100ml oil today. I rode at same pace.

I'd say you have a problem somewhere, my 2010 TE250 uses no noticable oil between 6 hour changes and has done approx 900 miles, all racing.
My Husaberg 650 used about 200ml every 2.5 hours of riding, turned out to be the bore glazed due to being run in too gently. Honed the bore, put new rings in it and ran it it short and hard to get a good seal, no problem with oil consumption there after.
Not saying this is definately 'your' problem but it certainly could be.

With 2 hours and high RPM's it may just be breaking in.

My TE250 burned a bit of oil when ridden at hi rpms...I'd say about 300ml in 3hrs.
Actualy it did nto burn but blew into the airbox through the breather.

I don't think it is a big issue. Give it a little more time to break in.

Over filling the oil will cause more to blow out.

The TC250 will blow a lot od oil out the vent line when rev'd hard, and they do use spme when new. I suggest keeping an eye on the vent line and giving it a little more time to break in.

They must be built in wine country, because they tend to get better with age.

ok folks here where i live ensenada baja mex. i do a trip from ensenada to el rayo about 100 miles then turned to the 77 then to tres hermanos finally going back to ojos negros is a good ride about 300 miles to home i never use mi truck to ride it is strictly home to ojos then back home t hink a ride like that will help to break in your engine

I did check where the vent line from the valve cover went, had to take tank off. It goes to top frame rail above motor and not sure where from there it had one of those funky husqvarna hose clamps that hard to get back together and did not have spare clamp sitting around. The nipple where it usually goes on air boot is plugged off so it hard to tell if it blowing oil out vent line. I have not seen any oil dripping out of frame yet but at 100-200ml a hour it should come out somewhere or drip from somewhere. Anyways thanks for help so far I will hopefully get one more ride in this weekend before winter hits and see how much oil it burns. I do like bike and hope it hold together and is just breaking in. In runs so good that it should not be anything to big I hope.

If the bike is still under warranty, take it to your dealer for repair. If it's not under warranty, take it to your dealer for repair. Mine burned more oil than "normal" after break in too. I was out of warranty and didn''t want to take any chances (grenading motor or disassembling twice) so I installed new valve guide seals and piston rings. Been racing the heck out of it (supermoto) since, and doesn't burn a drop.

What year and model husky do you have TCP and how much did it cost for repairs. My bike was bought used from a dealer with very low hours (way under 10) but dealer is located half way across Canada and there is no close Husqvarna dealer near me. Sounds like the Tc250 or extra lite motor might tend to burn oil more than other Husqvarna models. Thanks for help

I have not noticed my TC burning much oil if any, it has just over 40 hours on it now. I am usually changing the oil at about 2 hours for MX and 5 for off road.

It smokes a couple puffs on startup but it has done than since it had 4 hours on it.

Later,

Jason how about burning oil and what type of riding, thanks for the help I might be overfilling it a little
it about 3/4 up in sight glass but after oil change with filter and adding 900 ml oil that was where it ended up. Riding again this weekend one more time before winter and hoping oil consumption stays below 100ml hour.

Took bike out this weekend to track again and it burned 175 ml oil in 1 hour track time. So in 4 hours riding I have burned about 20L fuel and 625 ml oil there is something wrong that is almost as much oil as I use to burn in 2 stroke fuel. So around end cap on outside you can see oil residue that wipe off with a rag and inside end cap really black and sooty after every ride even after wiping it clean. Bike still runs good and starts good also. I have done top end on 2 stroke but I am not sure I want to take a 4 stroke apart and see what wrong. This is why I have been scared of 4stroke and have never bought one before. This is past a break in problem and must be rings or valve stem problem. I guess I should have just bought new but this bike looked so good with low hours and dealer assured me bike was in good shape and after I saw it first time I figured I got a good deal this is the only problem with bike but it might be big one. Thanks for any help or ideas.

I've never measured the expended oil after a change so I wouldn't know if it burn lots or not. You got me curious though and next change I will measure it. All my riding is not MX track type stuff but enduro stuff where my RPM is probably quite a bit lower than yours. That oil residue on the exhaust definitely dosnt seem normal.

I will agree that I am riding bike as hard as I can on a flowing sand track with high berms so bike is getting worked out but I am only 42year old c class rider. Are club has a couple guys riding jap 250f who are A class riders that have over 80 hours on bikes and they do not need to add oil every hour and they ride those bike hard. I never hit rev limiter and if anything shift to soon. I love the way bike corners and will do what it takes to get bike ready for next year but I have come to the solution I need to do something to fix this oil burning problem. Thanks for all the replys and will let everybody know how this turns out and what the problem turns out To be. Worse case maybe I can make it into 310 or a while back I heard somebody got alot more out of this motor with some porting or head work. I would be ok with stock power but if it need to come apart it might be a good time to do it I guess.
