  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

intermittent/weak starts and dead battery

Husqvarna
Hey all, i'm getting frustrated. Need some help.
Bike is a 2008 husqy 510 SMR. Has an arrow exhaust, pcv and autotune. Just replaced the battery.

Symptoms:
Weak starts. If i try to crank it over too many times it just drains the battery to the point where i cant even get it to turn over at all.
Sputters and runs a little rough (maybe a fueling problem). Not too bad but it did cut out on me once or twice while riding.

Diagnosis: Could it be the starter relay? Or the clutch cable? Ive read that these are fairly common causes of this?

Any help would be appreciated thanks!

update

I cant hear the fuel pump prime at all anymore.

checked all fuses. They are good. For the right side/tip over sensor side (on is for the fuel pump i believe). And the ones for the right side/starter relay (or the electric start remote control switch as the manual says) side.

I checked the voltage on the battery. Its 13.10 or so.

Also checked the clutch switch. It was a little lose but i tightened it. When hitting the starter and letting clutch out will kill it so thats ruled out.

Also plugged in PCV and checked the AF ratios through the powerband...and they are all still good.

Bad pump maybe? It was working fine yesterday. Im kinda scratching my head because it was fine and now its not. Im thinking about just replacing the fuel pump and the starter relay all at once. Is there a fuel pump relay as well?

I have a battery that tests at 13v on the bench. I put it on the bike, thinking it was a better battery than the one I had in it. The bench 13v battery would not even click the starter, complete dud under load..

To test the pump, pull the tank and the pump assembly and connect the pump directly to the battery, it should spin fast.

I really dont think It has anything to do with the valves. Just because the pump wont work now but was just the other day. I think its an electrical problem of some sort. I know its had the pump mod done to it so its not the "came undone inside tank" problem.

Hey just wanted to update this. Pulled fuel pump. Ended up being the megative terminal on the pump jiggled lose. I did however end up breakin somethin i shouldnt have. The quick disconnect fuel barb that connecte the fuel line to the base plate of the pump (doh!). So im either tryin to rig somethin up or find just that part without buyin the whole damned pump!
