  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Installed 1" Kouba Link on my Te450, +10 link of confidence

Husqvarna
I just bought my bike not long ago and one of the things that bothered me about it was the seat height. I'm about 5'10", but have a 30" inseam. At the factory height i could barely touch with my tip toes on one foot wearing my alpinstars riding boots.

i ordered up the koubalink from carls cycle last week and it came in a couple days ago. i went out last night and installed it on the bike. Installation was dead simple, remove two bolts, pull off the old link, and bolt the new link back up. The new link also has a grease fitting so you can keep it lubed up, the old one didn't.

i also found that the old link had become packed with dirt and grit and had barely any grease left, that is on a 08 with only 3700 miles.

i was a bit worried because when i put the kouba next to the factory link they looked virtually identical in length. i ordered the 1-inch version of the two husky links for my bike. they have a 1.5" version, but you have to file the swingarm and such for it to fit and i didn't want to do that.

Even though my eye said there was only about half an inch difference between the 1-inch drop link and the stock, i put it on anyway. As soon as the bike was on the ground i could tell a big difference in seat height. i pushed the front forks up in the clamps to where the third index line was barely above the top clamp.

The end result is that i was able to touch with the ball of one foot in my socks, rather than a tip toe in a riding boot. I can also touch with most of the toes on both feet at the same time while wearing my boots. Huge difference in confidence when sitting still. I felt like i was going to fall over at any second before.

i also ordered a 1-inch lowering seat and cover from seat concepts, once that is added I should be on the balls of both feet when stopped and more comfortable to boot. I didn't really want to ride the bike on the street before. i worried stepping down into a slight dip would leave me on the ground since i was barely touching as it was on level ground. The bike is also much easier to get on. if you have a short inseam or are just short, i highly recommend the mod, its about as easy a mod as you can do to get such a confidence boost.

Did you reset your rear sag according to the Kouba instructions?

no, i still need to do that. it was 90 and humid enough that i didn't want to think about putting on my gear. I need to find a neighbor to measure for me while im on the bike. Any tips on how to set sag alone or in general? those instructions sort of assume you know what sag is and where to measure.

I'm considering the Seat Concepts as well, but I didn't know they made a 1in lower one. I shaved my stock foam, and didn't do a great job. The seat has never been comfortable.
How do you like the seat? Sometimes I swear I can feel the pan under the reduced foam on my seat, and I only weigh a little over 150. I think I either cut too much foam, or in the wrong place.

I have the Seat Concepts 1" lowered seat. It is much more comfortable than the high domed stock seat. I rode 144 miles yesterday and my backside is not sore at all. Now the rest of me.......

Thanks! sounds like my next purchase.

Did you set the sag yet? How far did you go?

Awesome! I had the same positive results with my Kouba dropped TXC250. Confidence is key to good riding.

Pretty late to this thread but I'm curious: Did you notice any changes to your suspension with using that Kouba link? They say it stiffens up the feel. Also-how much did that drop your seat height?

Those seats seem too wide to me. But I've only seen pics.

I made the Seat concepts purchase, and I must say it's an improvement. Regarding the width, I did notice the increased width when standing on the pegs, but it was just slightly different, and not bad and well worth the extra comfort when sitting. I did 115 miles on Sunday, (70 on the paved to and from the dirt). In the past my butt would go numb at the end of the day, but not this time. I highly recommend the seat.
