  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Input on 350 big bore and options

Chums

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Looking very hard at doing big bore for the fe350 sometime this winter after the pocketbook stops bleeding from Christmas.

Top of my list is the Thumper racing 390 kit which uses stock sxf compression, so a little bump from the FE I'm guessing . it also has a pre made fuel map, which I like.

The smaller bore 365 kits I'm told put out roughly the same kind of power as the 390 but do it with more compression which I'm not sure If that's a true statement. I've also been told ya need a fuel controller with the smaller bore since they do not come with a map.
Just wondering if anyone has done one yet, do you have any feedback, any videos?

Before ya say it I did read the 390 review that was posted here, I'm just looking for more. Thanks!

Ahh I jumped off a three hundy 2 stroke onto the ol fe350 and just miss bottom end. I'm about 230lbs and have the FMF full system, the race map and ignition timing switch plus a tooth smaller in the rear and just want more down low. Im a clutch retarded rekluse abuser so more low end he better haha.

I have done the thumper racing 390 kit and it makes a huge difference to low end grunt. Will be adding a fmf full system soon and then I will be complete....

Once you ride a 350 and a 450 back to back the 450 feels like a pig! I'm happy with the 350 torque and top end but it was ment to be wrapped out and I still ride like I have a 300 2 stroke so more bottom end is what would make the 350 perfect!
Just wish it wasn't so busy in the shifting department and came out of the corners quicker. Did the 390 kit help with this?

Well after talking to the big 3 big bore companies I'm going with the Thumper racing 390 kit. They seem to have a high quality complete kit that should last a long time. They explained to me that they use an aluminum sleave with nikasel plating that won't expand and contract like a steel sleeve so tolerances can be tighter so you'll have less piston slap longer life and better heat transfer, so no overheating issues. Sounds like they use a high quality piston like RCI or some three letter piston (can't remember).
They also have an actual fuel map so no chasing tails finding a fuel curve. They are a couple hundred more than the 365 kits and the 400 kit but I think its worth it for the quality parts, map, and longevity.
It also sounds like these 390's can hold their own against 450's corner to corner only loosing the battle on wide open long straights.
Won't be until after the new year before I'm ready but I hope it all works out!

I haven't pulled the trigger yet, been slowly putting hours on the bike and should be ready this winter but unfortunately I don't have any input and have not heard of anyone else with a kit.

Send $775 for a big bore kit seems crazy.... your trying to make a 350 into something it wasnt designed to do.... trade it off for a 450 and be money ahead and not trying to make a bike into something it isnt.... 350 is meant to rev and a 450 for torque....

To each their own. Tinkering, tweaking and redesigning things is a part of life. Luckily the 390 kit doesn't up the overall HP of the bike much just adds to the bottom so a well built kit shouldn't be any harder on components than say riding it wide open where all the HP is. This seems like a better deal than spending $1000 on a full Ackro exhaust to me...

I guess if pissing away money is cool.... to eachs own.... Your going to have $1000 extra in a bike that is still under powered... and in the end worth less.... good luck

I appreciate the concern, its no different than my WB 165 and that was an awesome bike.

not to be dopey or a jerk #1 question will it make you faster? will it mean the difference between a crappy finish and a podium spot? Lap times are the best indicator. Special test times? Or am I just being too race oriented?? and the answer is "because I want to" "F all of everyone's opinions".

Test rode one and didnt like it because it is a "revving" style motor and if I ride a 4 stroke its going to be a 450 so I can use the torque which is what Chums is wanting torque....

but like I said... have fun pissing money away....Adios

Pretty sure this is actually what I said about the torque of the 350 ( earlier in this actual thread)..... Butttt don't bother reading it if your just going to assume.

But on topic,
The big bores give several more HP on the bottom end and I do race so being quicker corner to corner is important and ive proven to myself with my 300 that more bottom end means faster. I've won every enduro I've raced this year on my 350 but I'll be riding A class next year and currently finish 5th to 2nd in that class so yes being fast is important. I have 3k+ in extras on each bike so $750 on a big bore, done when I need a piston anyway is a drop in the happy bucket.

Ive read this whole painful thread unfortunately.... so please dont quote or reply so I'm not drug back here....

Why you have $3k in extras on top of a $9k bike to ride the B class is besides me.... have fun....

Shit I'm bottom 5 c class and I'd build tons of 20k dirt bikes if it could, you would think a factory team was rolling up in my semi too :)
