  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Inner Fender

Ok great ride today but....
Coming back down dirt to the truck my inner rear fender ejected--split across at the turn signal bolt area and there she goes. Luckily my riding buddy picked up the piece so I got my tag, tail light ect back!!
Guess next is a new inner fender--anybody know of an inner fender eliminator that only mounts the tail light? Looks like that whale tail is just going to break off again from vibration.
Thoughts--existing solutions?
Thanks

The same thing happened to me with 1000 miles on the bike. I used the stock competition rear light assembly that came with the bike. The stock competition light does not weigh much so there isn't much leverage when packed with mud.

I believe Husky makes a race tail light that eliminates the big black fender; a call to Halls or Motoxotica will probably be able to find you one. On the 2010s the tail light mounts independently of the fender, and it may even be the same part number.

You can have a look at my setup in TorC this weekend, and see if the 2010 LED light will bolt up.

The race tail light is the way to go,less mass too bounce around. The only problem I've had with mine is the red lens just fell out while doing a rock run. I got a replacement for the tail light assembly on here from another Huskey rider(thank you Tim). You may want to silicon that red lens in or do a better job of fastening it,I think it's only seated in there some how. I don't imagine that there is any serviceable parts in there anyhow, if the leds go they're done. The up side is even if the lens falls out (like mine did),you still have a red tail and brake light.

Thanks guys will start a search for the Race or competition tail light assembly--sounds like just what I want.

I'm pretty sure I have the race/LED tailight, but I decided to keep most of the rear piece, I cut off the little reflector thing and the very end, but I kept the license-plate light the way it is and I wanted the inspection sticker below the plate, so I used 7 bolts to secure the license plate to the inspection plate to the tail piece.

The second pic show the little brackets I made to tie the inner fender to the upper fender, gives some support to the luggage rack, and I used cabinet door handles from Home Depot as tie-down hook points and these attach points also lend some stability. Just the way I did it, not real pretty but 4000 miles and all is well and serves my needs.

thanks for the photo--I just ordered the replacement plastic piece it should be here in a week or so. Your bracing looks good--cold out tonight but I will take a closer look at my bike tomorrow--bracing is a good idea. If you want to sell the competition light PM me I may be interested. Thanks for the great response.
