  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Ignition switch does nothing

Hey everyone,
I'm new to Cafe Husky, bought a 2013 TE449 last week and really appreciate this site and all of you sharing your experience and time. I hope you can help with this one.
My ignition seemed to do nothing. I can start the bike without the key. When I turn on the ignition, the dash doesn't light up. It was weird. It seems to have no purpose
My headlight wasn't working (high beam bulb yes, but not low beam), so I pulled off the front shroud to remove/replace the bulb. Once removed I saw that the 6 wires, and the 6 pin connector at the end, coming from the ignition switch is dangling there attached to nothing. I figured I'd just plug it in. But there is NOTHING to plug it into. I've looked high and low. Nothing.
I ordered a keyed kill switch from Sicass (not yet arrived), as the posts say "plug and play", but I'm a afraid there may be nothing to plug into. Any suggestions? Thanks.

OK, I think I've figured it out. I bought my TE449 used. Apparently this bike doesn't come with a keyed ignition. So a previous owner must have bought and installed the OEM keyed ignition but found no place to plug it in, as the 2013 wiring harness doesn't support it. So they just left it there, wires dangling inside the headlight cover!
If I can somehow splice it into my start/kill switch, I will. Otherwise I'll use the Sicass ignition. Thanks.

Hi Martillo,

I'm new to the forum and bought a 2012 TE 450 in November last year. I am curious to know how you sorted the keyed ignition issue out? Did you splice the wiring harness of did you go for the Sicass ignition?

Thanks

Hey Heinrich,
I bought the Sicass switch, wired it in easily according to the directions, and have been good to go ever since! I recommend it.
