  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

need help identifying these 4054's , they came on a 87xc430 I purchased long ago and want to service with possible different shims , but don't know what year, model bike they came from.

I don't think they are what came on the huskys in 87 or 88. They are more silver in color. Do the triple clamps have the husky elephant symbol cast into them Might be KTM or ATK. They both used them. Good luck in your search.
 
have a 87cr250 with the usd forks & a spare set I got from evil bay. maybe i'll tear into the spares
to see . just a neophyte about this & know nothing . oil height and shim stack the only way to tune ?
besides different springs , which are probably non existant ?
 
I have a set from a 87 430 on my 88 430. They are the silver colored ones. I think HVA87 is whats stamped into the top caps. As far as I know there was a mod where a hole in the internals is increased in size. Back then I had a husky shop look at them to see if the mod was already done (because they were used) & I was told it was. Sorry I am not much help but these forks work well. The drawback is there is no external adjusters. The pre-load can be adjusted with spacers & the oil height & weight is the other adjusting tool. They work well with lighter weight fork oil. I used to mix 5w & 10w to get 7.5w. I do have a manual but I don't have a scanner. Keep an eye on the axle clamps, they crack along the top across the axle when over tightened.

If you are new at this I recommend you send them to someone who knows what they are doing like Drew Smith at Werks Enduro Racer.
 
DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE AXLE CLAMP IT WILL BREAK********************************************************************************!!! AND YOU GOTTA BUY A WHOLE FORK LEG $250 OUCH:eek: PRETTY SURE THOSE ARE OE :thumbsup:
 
Go to Hva Factory web site. There is a 88 owners manual that has a section covering the 4054 fork. It takes a long time to load the pages. Check pages 31,32,33 I had a link on here but it wasn't working so I took it off.
 
I have posted photos from my 87 CR 430 that came from the factory with the WP 4054 forks. I have seen latter 430 CRs come with the black 4054. I have also have a photo of my 91 WXE 250 which has the adjustable 4054 WP. I know Husqvarna sold a kit that had the WP 4054 fork so did ATK. KTM also used the same fork.So someone could of gotten any of those and put it on. I noticed your pinch bolts for the triple clamps stick out my are flush... The only mode in 87-88 that came stock with the 4054 was the CRs. I have gotten the bottom axel holder from Halls before they can crack. But at that time about 8 years ago they said parts were coming hard for the 4054.

It looks like your forks and clamps are from a 1984 KTM 250 sold in the US market. You can tell they are KTM clamps from the pinch bolt behind the steering stem. Those forks originally had a lug for a drum brake on the left hand axle clamp but yours has been changed out for a disc brake caliper mount.

I believe are manufacture dates , 49-86 = 49th week of 1986 ? any help on different oil height/oil weight info would be great!

over for me Ha Ha! bad right knee,bad left hip . next order of business is decompression on the 430 . Again , I thank all for

I run about 18 OZ 5W Maxima in each leg after completely cleaning out each leg. I weigh about the same. The lighter oil helps in the woods. (choppy stuff) I installed 1/8" npt bleeders in the center of the top cap to release any pressure that may build up.
 
Where can I find parts for this fork? I have found a site that offers parts but its to the newer adjustable 4054 forks. Mine is sitting on a 1988 TE 510. Should not be there according to the original specs but it was bought as extras by the first owner. The seals can be saved but I prefer to change them also. The bushings are not savable though so those is a must. I belive my forks were not touched since 1990. The oil was more like grease than oil.
