  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I have had it. (kickstand issue)

I am about to throw the kick stand from my 07 TE450 off a bridge into the river below. Hopefully I will never see this piece of crap again. One more thing. The stock fender is going with it. It will probably float to shore right where I park.

You sound a bit frustrated.

Another way of looking at it might be: you joined in July 2008, and this is your first post. Hopefully that means there are many other things about the bike that work well.

What's the problem with it? Have you removed the nub??

is it out too far ? I mean is it too low as if you bike will fall ? that is common if you have put ANY weight on it.. Call Dan at Motoxotica and he will fix you right up with the right part... He fixed me up

Nothing wrong with the stock kickstand on my 07 TE450. The dealer offered to remove the part of the bolt that makes the spring auto-retract when I bought the bike, before it was rolled off the showroom floor. The kickstand works just fine and is still more sturdy than the one that was on my old KTM.

If it still has the stupid auto-retract bolt, it should be tossed ASAP.

There has also been a tendency for the bolts on the little cast piece that bolts to the frame to come loose/strip on the 06-07's
I've seen it happen to several bikes.

I kept having to re-tighten, re-loctite mine, til the bottom finally stripped the threads. I finally threw away the stock bolts and put longer grade 10 bolts in that I double nutted with red loctite. Hasn't been a problem since.

Great idea, my 2006 te250s kickstand bolt keeps loosing up. :)

Going by memory;
You need to use hex bolts; The top one can go in the same way as stock, the bottom one you have to take the lower chain roller off 1st, put the bolt in from behind & put the 2 nuts on facing to left side of the bike. Replace chain roller. there is just enough clearance between the bolt & roller for this to work.

I'll double check tonite.

Frustrated is an under statement! The bike is absolutley awesome other than the kick stand.

The small attachment plate bends very easily and the bolts actually break. I am going to redesign the way the kickstand attaches to the frame. I removed the auto retract nub in 2007 and modified the stand so it doesn't go so far forward but I still seem to have issues with it.

The small bracket will only bend and the bolts break if they are coming loose. If you can keep them tight(I mean really tight), you'll have no problems.
I'll post a pic of what I did with mine.

My bolts have come loose maybe two or three times in the last three years. I check them every so often when I am doing regular maintenance on the machine.

What do you guys and girls think about where the kickstand touches the ground? To me it seems that it is way too close to the bike making the bike near vertical when resting on the stand. And getting it down sometimes means leaning the bike way to the right so the stand will clear the ground.

Hmmm. Mine doesn't seem to have that problem. It leans enough when parked and only has to have the bike leaned the other way when the ground is uneven and possibly a bit too high on the stand side. Maybe some are bent more than others.:excuseme:

If thats the problem, shortening the stand should do a decent job of taking care of that as well.. no??

I know I had the OPPOSITE problem with my 610, as most do. It was too short and leaned WAYYY too far over. I had it lengthened, and now I kinda have the issue your talking about colo moto. I went like 1/4 - 1/2 and inch TOO long with it.. lol... I have no problem dealing with it though cause when it was too short, it made for ALOT more problems than now.

I replaced my stock bolts with marine grade stainless with lock nuts and also used locktite. Just enough room The cast attachment is prone to bend but onlt to a certain point.

Don't know about the 07 but on my 09 you're exactly right. It's too close to the bike, and does hold it too upright. It does just about work on perfectly flat, solid ground, but I've found it can fall off the stand either to the left or the right despite being *very* careful about where I leave it (the auto-retract was disabled from new).

And yes, on flat ground I always have to lean the bike quite a way to the right to get it down. That happens to be a particular pain when I'm putting it away as I have limited room and I have to juggle the bars around to find space to get the bike far enough over (I can't roll it in with the stand already down as there's a step and it grounds out). I've stored many other bikes in the same space, including some which were much bigger and heavier, and never had a problem with any of them - I just rolled them in and kicked the stand down with the bike still upright.

It's annoying, as I love my little Husky and it's about the only thing I can think of on the bike that strikes me as bad design. :excuseme:

Some pics of my fix:

1st pic shows the double nut on the bottom bolt. There wasn't enough room to double nut the top one, but it doesn't get as much load as the bottom bolt anyway.

2nd pic shows the limited clearance, so you need to use hex bolts and insert them from behind. The top one I removed the chain and used a ratchet strap from the swingarm, up over the seat, to compress the suspension in order to get a clear path for the bolt.
Both rec'd a liberal dose of red loctite and were tightened to 25+ ft/lbs.
They haven't come loose since installation over 100 hrs ago.

I've got use to mine. Once I set my sag. It really helped with the way the bike leans.

One thing it was hard to get use to was putting up the stand before mounting. Nearly impossible to do after you're on your bike.
