My Checkbook that is. I was trying to hold out, but I have no discipline. I picked up a new TXC250 yesterday.
I'm very critical of my new toys, I always try to find the flaws before acknowledging the positives. There's only a couple of small things that bug me.
1. The cheesy front brake line. It looks like a plastic vacuum hose.
2. Weak looking hotstart lever. IMO the thing is useless. I would prefer the decomp lever like on the older models.
My very first impression of the bike in the dealer lot was not good at all.
With the stock 40 tooth sprocket and the O2 sensor in it was unridable. The bog on the bottom was so bad I had the rev the crap out of it just to start off. I tried to pull a wheelie in 2nd gear and it fell flat on it's face.
Dan mentioned to me about the 40T sprocket and that made a little sense. We I played with the ibeat a little and adjusted it to 104, 106, 100 and it ran a little better.
After I got it home I spent the night prepping the bike. First thing was to remove the O2 sensor and install the resistor to access the race map. Install the 50T sprocket. I also applied the clear film on the frame to protect the paint. Installed hand guards and decided to try the SealSavers neoprene fork guards.
With the power up installed it ran sooo much better. But it still has a flat spot off the bottom. Maybe we can start an EFI tuning thread for the new 250's in the EFI section.
I took her out for a couple of hours. Like everyone has mentioned, it handles great. The suspension is head and shoulders above my 08 TE250. One other note, The KYB forks and triple clamps seem much more precise than my old Marzocchi's. When I removed the fork legs to install the Sealsavers, the legs just dropped out as soon as I loosened the clamp bolts. And slid in just as easily installing. No prying open the clamps. No scratching the fork tubes from twisting them back and forth to get them in. Nice stuff.
The flat spot almost made me eat sh!t in some tight single track today. It hesitated just when I cracked the throttle. Need to work on that. Other than that the motor is exactly what I wanted when I got my 08 TE250. I can see this bike only getting better as she breaks in.
One concern to me is that Kelly mentioned that his motor was quiet. Mine makes a racket. It sounds terrible. But it's running great. It's not as loud as my TE but the TE makes clicking valve noises. I can't describe the noises from the TXC. I wish I could post an audio clip. I think maybe I should pull the valve cover and take a look, but frankly, I wouldn't know what to look for.
Here she is in all her splendor.
