  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I couldn't keep it in my pants..

My Checkbook that is. I was trying to hold out, but I have no discipline. I picked up a new TXC250 yesterday.
I'm very critical of my new toys, I always try to find the flaws before acknowledging the positives. There's only a couple of small things that bug me.

1. The cheesy front brake line. It looks like a plastic vacuum hose.

2. Weak looking hotstart lever. IMO the thing is useless. I would prefer the decomp lever like on the older models.

My very first impression of the bike in the dealer lot was not good at all.
With the stock 40 tooth sprocket and the O2 sensor in it was unridable. The bog on the bottom was so bad I had the rev the crap out of it just to start off. I tried to pull a wheelie in 2nd gear and it fell flat on it's face.
Dan mentioned to me about the 40T sprocket and that made a little sense. We I played with the ibeat a little and adjusted it to 104, 106, 100 and it ran a little better.

After I got it home I spent the night prepping the bike. First thing was to remove the O2 sensor and install the resistor to access the race map. Install the 50T sprocket. I also applied the clear film on the frame to protect the paint. Installed hand guards and decided to try the SealSavers neoprene fork guards.

With the power up installed it ran sooo much better. But it still has a flat spot off the bottom. Maybe we can start an EFI tuning thread for the new 250's in the EFI section.

I took her out for a couple of hours. Like everyone has mentioned, it handles great. The suspension is head and shoulders above my 08 TE250. One other note, The KYB forks and triple clamps seem much more precise than my old Marzocchi's. When I removed the fork legs to install the Sealsavers, the legs just dropped out as soon as I loosened the clamp bolts. And slid in just as easily installing. No prying open the clamps. No scratching the fork tubes from twisting them back and forth to get them in. Nice stuff.

The flat spot almost made me eat sh!t in some tight single track today. It hesitated just when I cracked the throttle. Need to work on that. Other than that the motor is exactly what I wanted when I got my 08 TE250. I can see this bike only getting better as she breaks in.

One concern to me is that Kelly mentioned that his motor was quiet. Mine makes a racket. It sounds terrible. But it's running great. It's not as loud as my TE but the TE makes clicking valve noises. I can't describe the noises from the TXC. I wish I could post an audio clip. I think maybe I should pull the valve cover and take a look, but frankly, I wouldn't know what to look for.

Here she is in all her splendor.

Awesome bike! I hope you love it. Wow your neighbor is close. I guess theres no riding around the yard for you.

Great write up Darkside.

I appreciate when you get a true opinion without the icing.

The engine noise should diminish after awhile either that or you will just get use to it.:D

You mention playing with Ibeat...do you have this at home? Maybe a couple more adjustment will help with the bog. I think I'd ride her a bit and get some time on the engine. It might just go away on its own.

:cheers::cheers:

Sweet bike :D

That lever is not a hot start but enriching, you pull it when cold to start. My bike had no hesitation or bog. It runs better every time i ride it. Make sure your catalytic converter is out and the throttle stop removed. I'm at 100/105/107 SA in and she rips. :thumbsup:m Already started a 2010 EFI post int he EFI forum last week. As for the sound in the motor i think it is the E-start stuff. Rattles a little and makes a funny noise. when cold.

This bike rips and loves to wheelie.

Why didn't you get the TE 250.?

That's what I was trying to hold out for. To find out if there were any noticable difference between the TE and TXC. On the O8 and 09 models as good as the TE's are, there was still a performance and handling advantage to the TXC.
I wanted a no compromise dirt bike. I just couldn't keep it in my pants any longer.

Beautiful bike and welcome to the clan. You might want to add a couple of bolts to your skid plate. I noticed Kelly broke his skid plate right where mine broke. I am just wondering if it is due to only 1 bolt holding it on. If you look under there you will notice a place for two more bolts.

That noise is doing the same thing on mine as well, I think it is normal. You might want to play around with CO 1 setting to see if it will get rid of the stumble. My TXC still has a spot just off idle that you can tell it is not quite right on the settings. With all of the smog stuff removed it is a rocket. Enjoy the new ride.

Did Cafe Husky just get a 2010 250 efi test mule for the PC V & Autotune? :)

I've been searching for one because it has been a little tough getting one to Dynojet in Las vegas.

If so you cannot keep the PC V & Autotune as long as last time :p

Do you still have your 2008 TE250?

That might just be the ticket. We can fine tune the ibeat without a dyno.

Same as last time. I'll come down and install, or we can meet at Carnegie, or my house (on your way to Carnegie). Try it out till Christmas time frame - then I need it back.

Tune the ibeat settings for minimum PC V map changes, to confirm what would be ideal for your bike without PC V & autotune.

Let me know your schedule.

If we can do this relatively quickly then I'll send out a few emails to let people know.

I cannot think of a better person to do this than you

Is the Husky efi format a poor cousin to the other brands? I am getting a picture of less than 100% satisfaction out of the box and then after extensive tweeking accepting something that still has some quirks or issues. Friends riding Gas Gas and Sherco have absolutely no issues with their machines. Lets be honest in our assesment here. There just seems to be too much mucking about post sale. EFI, I would have thought would be almost set and forget. It is on outboards, road bikes, cars and the opposition dirt bikes. Lets not have our brand loyalty cloud our comments. If the outcome and consensus is that there is a sub par aspect then this needs to be rammed back home to the dealers. Bet your bottom dollar that will be escalated.

Remember all the bikes (MX and XC and DS) are Cal Green sticker machines (important for marketing, 50 state legal for all off road stuff including all OHV places in Ca.). to pass into that CARB spec super lean is the answer.
This may have do with the lean base setting and lean bog you guys find, in your machines. (my thought on that)

Good points. The 2010 TXC250 is my first EFI bike and got it in large part for that reson, to understand the EFI. I wrote up a quick info thread here...

http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6551

As stated there and IMHO the EFI and cost of admission to be able to adjust it is well worth it. Mine has run very well since day one. Not perfect but VERY close. The throttle response is insane, like wired directly to your brain and throttle pull is light. I am VERY happy with mine and how it runs and works. being able to plug it in and quickly check settings, codes, failure reports and see the hour meter and other stuff is awesome and IMHO way better than countless hours rejetting carbs, adding power now devices, AP devices, etc and all the hassles that go with that.

I think the reason you are seeing a lot of EFI posts is a lot more bikes have them now and some are for sure not 100% setup. The mags thought the carbed TC ran like crap also but many here tell us to swap out the pilot and let it rip. I believe it is more the unknown of the EFI and not a huge problem it seems. Other than the ridiculous cost of the fuel pump I see no down side tot he EFI on the huskys. All bike need rejetted one way or another these days. Company have made a killing selling rejet kits, and devises to make the FCR work right. Is the FCR an issue? No just needs setup, like the EFI. EFI is EZer to do that setup and compensates for conditions which you have to do manually on the carbed bike.

BTW the Berg EFI is very good as well but i have seen several that did not run great until the race map was evoked with a switch and stuff you need to buy and install.
