Enduro World Championship '10 - Round 6
Serres, Greece, 28/29.8.2010
Husqvarna's Enduro 1 World Championship leader Antoine Meo had what can only be described as a hugely eventful weekend at the recent GP of Greece as an electrical problem forced the Frenchman to retire during the opening day's competition before he bounced back to claim an emphatic win on day two. Winner of the Friday night Super Test Meo was in confident mood ahead of the first full day of competition but having completed just one special test was forced out of the event when an electrical cable failed. Helpless to do anything other than return to the paddock and prepare himself for the second day's competition the loss of 25 points dramatically reduced Meo's lead at the top of the E1 standings.
But on day two Antoine showed exactly why he remains at the top of the competitive Enduro 1 class as he claimed a commanding win, despite being disadvantaged due to having not ridden the long and demanding enduro test on day one. Forced to give 100 per cent from the off Antoine took 'many risks' to ensure he remained in touch with KTM duo Johnny Aubert and day one winner Eero Remes. Doing exactly that, once the opening lap was over Antoine settled into his riding and opened up a small but important advantage at the top of the class. Maintaining that throughout the third and final lap Meo claimed his seventh day win of the series. With two rounds remaining Antoine holds a 22-point lead at the top of the E1 championship standings.
Continuing to deliver solid results in the Enduro 1 class Matti Seistola placed fourth on day one and fifth on day two. Despite a few small mistakes during the opening day's competition Matti performed well on all tests and finished the day just one-minute behind winner Eero Remes. On day two Matti put in a largely mistake free ride and topped the motocross test on lap two to finish fifth overall. Matti now sits fourth in the Enduro 1 championship standings.
Antoine Meo - Enduro 1: 'Obviously day one was a real disappointment but in racing things like that can happen. We had a problem with an electrical cable, which was new for the race. Because I didn't ride the enduro test on day one it was really difficult to be fast there on the first lap on day two. I had to take some big, big risks to stay in contention for the win. Once I got the first lap out of the way I found my speed and started riding well. On the third lap I eased off a little as I didn't want to take any risks. I really enjoyed the day. I'm looking forward to Turkey now - the championship's new race.'
Matti Seistola - Enduro 1: 'The first day was a tough one for me. I made a few mistakes on the enduro test and couldn't build any real confidence in my riding. I didn't make any big mistakes but I was just lacking a little speed. I felt better on day two. The top guys are riding really fast and I still have a few seconds to find if I'm to compete with them on every special test. Anyway, I gave my best and didn't make any costly mistakes. I'm working hard to be challenging for the podium every time, so let's see what Turkey brings.'
The GP of Greece was a very successful weekend for the CH Racing Husqvarna team's Enduro 3 class riders Seb Guillaume and Bartosz Oblucki. Both having raced in Greece many times before, it was Seb who enjoyed the best opening day result as the experienced Frenchman placed third on the podium alongside countryman Christophe Nambotin and David Knight. Starting the sixth round of the EWC series in the best possible way Seb topped the E3 class results for the Friday night Super Test and then backed that up with a solid opening lap on day one. Remaining fast and consistent throughout lap two Seb put the finishing touches to a great day's riding on lap three and secured third, just 28 seconds behind winner Nambotin.
Day two ended with an even better result for Guillaume as he placed his WR300 in the runner-up spot behind championship leader David Knight. Second in class on both of the opening tests Seb put in a second day of impressive riding to secure a double podium finish. Seb now sits just 10 points behind the third placed rider in the E3 championship standings.
Bartosz Oblucki ensured the GP of Greece ended in the best possible way for the CH Racing Husqvarna team as he joined Guillaume on the podium on day two in third. After a difficult opening day, at the end of which he placed fifth, Oblucki set about a top three finish on day two and battled with his team-mate throughout the day. With less than one second separating the two Husqvarna riders Oblucki ended the day third and more than pleased with his result.
Seb Guillaume Enduro 3: 'Finishing on the podium on both days is fantastic for me. It was a very difficult race because of the heat but I felt really good on the first day. Winning the Friday night Super Test was a great start and then I had a really good day. I won four tests and didn't make any big mistakes, so I was very pleased with third. Day two was hard because the course was really rough. But again things went well. I was working to finish third again but when Christophe Nambotin went out I was able to get second, which is great. Two podium results is fantastic, I hope I can do the same in Turkey next weekend.'
Bartosz Oblucki Enduro 3: 'The first day was difficult for me. Not because of the heat but because I didn't have a good feeling with my bike. Everything was new and I just didn't feel settled. We made some changes during the day, which made it better but I was a little slow to get going. The second day was much better. I felt great all day and despite the heat I felt good at the end of the day. I was much happier with my riding. I had a great fight with Seb and had two really good tests right at the end of the day. But it wasn't quite enough and I finished third with Seb second. It was great for us both to finish on the podium and I was very pleased with my riding.'
