  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husqvarna TE510 09 rebuild, riding, ideas and more

Husqvarna
A Class
Hello fellow Husky riders

I'm from Norway, 18 years old and got my first Husky about 4 months ago. It was a Husqvarna TE510 2009. About a month ago I had an collision with a Subaru Forester. The police said it was partly my fault so the insurance wouldn't pay for the damages... Now it's soon winter and the snow will fall and the water will freeze here in Norway. So my plan is to get the bike up and running before all of the snow is gone.

I hope you guys will help me with any problems and/or questions i might have during the rebuild. Because I can use all the help I can get. I know I need to change the frame and the radiators. And i might need to change the front forks, steering head and alot more..

Before I can start stripping the bike I need to take it to the NPRA (Norwegian Public Roads Administration) and get the papers for changing the frame. That might take a while since it's a looong wait.

And a picture of the bike after the crash..

Please come with any ideas you guys might have for the bike, I'm open for new thinking.

I am really really sorry about the state of your bike- sorry for your loss. Glad you are healthy and alive.
I don't have any ideas for you other than making it whole again but that All depends on finding affordable parts versus parting yours. Unfortunately, parting it might be the easiest. Unless you can find another with a blown motor.

Thank you man, I'm fine after about a week on crutches. was able to hit the windshiekd of the car without any damage to my neck or back, only my feet got a beating from the crash. Thank god for motorcycle gear and helmets.
Been looking around for a bike with a blown engine, but most of them are from 2008 and down and most of the 09-11 are without any paper on the frame. Might need to buy a brand new frame. Unfortunately there aren't that many Huskys here in Norway, mostly KTM.

Have you looked into getting the frame straightened? There are companies that do it, just don't know about in Norway.
Do the forks still slide easy? They are pretty strong so may not be bent.
At least you're here to tell the tale, that's all that really matters

Yeah, been looking for someone who might get it straightened, but so far without any luck... Not many people who do it apparently.
The forks slide quite easy but havent tried to bottom them all the way down yet. I think they might be bent a little bit at the steering head, looks that way imo
Luckily I'm still standing, and the bike is fixable. Building up bikes and cars is a hobby of mine, and since it's soon winter it's going to be alot of late nights.

Talked with some Husqvarna guys here, and they said it would be cheaper to buy an unregistered dirt bike with the same frame than trying to get it straightened. So I'm now looking for a TC450 or a 250 and getting the papers i need to be able to use the frame from that one on my bike. Its about 5000 US dollars for a used 450 with about 70h on the engine. Might be able to sell a few parts from it and get some of my money back or keep the parts just in case I brake something more.

I also received some horrible news, today a good friend of mine tragically passed away after over a week in hospital after an Car accident. He was a great friend who allways was there when I needed help. A big BMW enthusiast and the best friend a guy can ask for. He'll always be missed and I'm still trying to realise the fact that he's gone forever. He was the guy that came with me to pick up the Husqvarna 510, helped me through every problem I met along the way and was always there if you needed anything.

In loving memory of Mathias Sørøy Rødahl. We'll meet again, in a better place. Rest in peace

I am sorry for your loss. You owe it to your mate to rebuild your Husky as he bought it with you and BMW owned Husky at the time your bike was made.
I agree with others best to replace the frame from an unregistered dirt bike and use the rest of your existing parts.
Good luck with your restoration and forthcoming long nights.

It also be worth looking on ebay germany as there always seems to be alot of husky parts on there

Yeah, I've been looking into the german ebay, but I dont know how the frames wil fit my bike?
Know that Husqvarna got a new frame in 2009 and used it on the 2010. So its rather dificult to know what wil fit mine, since it's not allways the same frame on the different bikes from 2009-2010

I have decided to go with the idea of buying a brand new frame instead of getting a dritbike and so on. I belive it's cheaper because The forks and steering head is fine. then all I need is a new frame, radiators, radiator and engine guard, headlight and front fender. Now all I got to do is wait for my payday.

Anyone got any ideas of what color I should have on the frame, or should I keep it white? I get free sandblasting and power coating at work.
And any ideas on the headlight and front fender? Should I go with a KTM fender/headlight? I'm thinking of going with the SMR 2009 front fender and the original headlight, but I'm open for ideas.

I've talked with the NPRA (Norwegian Public Roads Administration), and I'm able to get the papers to start rebuilding my bike within 2 weeks (I hope).
Been painting and cleaning the room I'm going to be "living" in this winter, but I'm still waiting for most of my tools to come. Wasnt able to get any paint for the concrete floor since the only paint they had left was blue.

Rather smal room but think it'll do just fine.

I belive this is where the frame took the most of the beating. the whole area is bendt in.

Got around and started taking the bike apart today, took of everything I was alowed to before getting the papers for changing the frame. Getting the papers the 5th Desember so I'm probably getting some more done afther that.

Found out that the forks were not bent, and they were smooth all the way when I tried to push them all the way down.
Belive I might need some new radiators.

This is about as much as I'm allowed to take it apart.

I have also ordered a new frame for the bike, and it'll be around in a few weeks. Got it for 17 000 NOK (approximately 2700 US dollars)

Anyone got any ideas for new radiators? Should I buy stock or upgrade to something else?
Thinking of getting the same radiator guards that I had, but dont know if they'll fit if I upgrade the radiators?

Thinking of getting these Fluidyne radiators: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HUSQVARNA-3...Parts_Accessories&hash=item53ed53e6db&vxp=mtr

Hopefully the frame twisting didn't move your engine mounts. I.e. just enough that it might cause trouble when putting the engine in the new frame, the motor is a pretty solid unit though so hopefully you are ok. Also even if you could straighten your radiators I would be a bit concerned that they might have been too stressed now and might fatigue over time and not hold pressure.

Yeah, the frame only seemes bendt above the engine mounts so I believe that wont be a problem. Dont think the radiators is something to straighten, so going to buy new radiators.

Finaly the winter is here! Great day to be working on the bike though...
20131207_120346.jpg

Had a friend over so we was able to take the whole bike apart. Most of the day (while it was some daylight left) we spendt riding a 450cc quad bike and pulling snow sleds. Quite fun nut didnt get any pictures or videos from it. Maybe some other day.

Got of the rear suspention and the swingarm quite easy, and the wirering was also taken care of. I hpoe I won't have any problems with the wirering and component when putting it back together (been taking alot of pictures.)

Not much left of the bike

Aaaand it's all gone, the engine mounts was a little bit bendt, but it was no problem getting the screws out. And I'm ready for my new frame. Which i hope to get before christmas.

Looks good man, good luck.

Of topic question, I see a subwoofer and wires and pucks on the wall. Are those sound transducers? (the pucks vibrate and make the wall the speaker) If so how do they sound?

I'm afraid I must dissapoint you, the woofer is a 12'', 600w and the speakers are just some cheap speakers I put up in a hurry to get some tunes while working. Going to change them to something a little bit better later on when I get around.

Miss the good times, belive this picture was from my first long "illegal" ride (before i got my license). Think we drove 30km that night, was about 1 am when we got back, been changing the oil on my friends bike, therefore the late ride (no easy access to the oil drain.) Beautifull night, hope for some more of those in the years to come.
