  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husqvarna TE449 at the Erzberg Rodeo. 10 place !!!

Two problems we had when racing the 449 in 2010, 11 and 12 was the torque limiter failure and oil loss. My oil re-circulation system keeps higher levels of oil in this engine allowing the torque limiter to survive in order for the engine to really be magical.

how do i know the Torque limiter is stuffed. my bike is blowing oil like hell. my dealer just said to keep the oillevel on the lower edge of the glass.

The oil level should be at least at the top of the glass when cold. 1150cc of 0w40 or 5W40. I personally run 1200-1400cc. This can not be accomplished without a oil re-circulation system. I changed the breather location from the case to the valve cover, this stops hot gasses from flowing through the torque limiter initiating failure, then oil/air vapor is cooled and condensed in the breather tank. The gas flows back to the air filter, while the oil is drained back to the oil reservoir.

But how would i know the Limiter is gone already ?..... And where is that limiter located. shouldnt Husqvarna done all these things or BMW. Here in Australia, i never heard about that problem .

You won't until it starts really slipping bad. Here is a post from Tom H in AUS who had a faulty torque limiter: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/sudden-clutch-slipping.32773/
It's basically a limited slip clutch that sits mid motor. When it starts slipping it heats and wears. To prevent this, I have built a system to keep the oil level high which cools the clutch and reverted gases away from the limiter.

Ok i got it now.... understand how this one works. And it makes sense. What a Bunch of fools to tell people to put less OIl in there. I love to go Hill climbing. In VIC Australia is one after another.
Thanks for the Info..

Welcome. Ty told me that if we knew what we know now about these engines, back in 2010, we would have seriously changed the race development and our race outcomes.
