• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husqvarna SMQ New Model for 2010? ECIMA

Last year, but the guy who designed it now works for Willy G.!

Actually, that was the year before last. But still really cool. I was hoping I would see it at EICMA in 2007, but the Husky booth didn't have any prototypes, just the production bikes. I was really hoping they would have continued along these lines for a new 610 range.

Yep and you can almost bet that that very bike will be showing up in Harley showrooms powered by a 650 Rotax engine. Not that I have any real inside info but there has been speculation and I'm inclined to believe it, or at least acknowledge the possibility.

Sorry but that is one UGLY bike

Ok, that blue hornet bike is a work of art worthy of a prominent spot at the Guggenheim museum,
I’ll be ok with it coming from Harley or anybody else as long as it’ll just come

The Husqvarna SMQ on the other hand leads me to believe that Husqvarna now employs
the design team that brought us the Pontiac Aztec!!!

I mean what the hell is this abomination???
Is this a joke???
:excuseme:
I give it -->:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

You sir are correct! Time flies, it just seems like last year!:oldman:

This is really upsetting
Harley will come up with the blue hornet
Husky with the SMAztec

Oh what a day, what a day…
I need to just shut down the lap-top and try to sleep it off…
It’s just this thing gives me nightmares !!!

(I guess there is a Harley in my future after all…)

What is this engine?

It does not look like any of the current models, and appears to have had an angle change of the cylinder like the new bergs?

I believe that photo is a paste-up job and not a real, physical motorcycle. The engine itself, and much of the bike for that matter, has a very ah... two dimensional look.

I could be wrong, but I don't see it as a real bike.

I believe it as being and actual prototype.

On the new husky site it talks about it being at the ECIMA show
http://www.husqvarna-motorcycles.com/_vti_g5_nwArt.aspx?rpstry=157_&idnews=850&IdCat=12

Although i agree that it does look a little photoshop-ed, there are some details like the welds of the exhaust that are too detailed for a mock-up photo.

That said, it just seems to radical for a new model.

Most new models, being cars, bikes, computers, etc, all carry over a certain amount of architecture from the previous model.

This bike appears to have none.

You would think that something the engine, which has been pretty well defined in its current form, or the new engine, would be something that husky would carry over into any new model.

But to see a new model bike, with new engine, substantially different chassis design, different style graphics/plastics, all seems a bit weird.

Will have to wait and see. :excuseme:

Took a look at the photos in your link... very interesting, but they have an odd look to them as well.
I agree with your assessment of the "weird" aspect of no current componentry... an evolutionary rather than revolutionary image would be more reasonable to accept.

Are there any photos of the bike at the EICMA International Exhibition with perhaps people and things around to lend some dimensional substance? The lack of background or "depth" of view makes it difficult for me to see a functioning, or at least rolling motorcycle.

Maybe it's my old eyes... or 35 years in the motorcycle industry that has me questioning the validity of a bike like this. :oldman:

I guess it's mostly academic anyway... intellectual curiosity.

Midnight in Washington State... new president (finally). Time for bed.

G'Night,

If that's a real bike, and motor, where's the radiator, pray tell..?? Or, how 'bout rear suspension, hmmn..? And, lining up the exhaust port with the intake side of the head in a straight line which is how virtually all modern cylinder heads are designed, we have.....nothing. No manifold, no TB, no carb, nada.

PhotoChop all the way. Not to mention butt-ugly IMHO. Anybody at Milan who can check this out at the Husky booth?

The engine is the BMW 450 that is built in Taiwan by Kymco. I won't sell Kymco scooters because they are crap. If they needed an engine built in Taiwan they should have had PGO built it.
I would like to see a non studio picture of it. EICMA photos will be surfacing all week, I'm sure we will all hear more.
