  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My 2009 HUSKY WR 250 Kickstart lever is flogged out
it moves left to right and back and forwards by itself
looks like its going to break soon. i run a rekluse so i can't afford for it
to break in the middle of no where (because you can't push start it)

where from & how much is a new one? they are over $160 locally :(
anyone got the part number?
has anyone else had this happen to their kickstart lever?

Mine is the same way.I'm going to take it apart and try to fit some type of bushing to it.I've been planning to do this for about a year now.I don't think it will break but it could become stuck either folded in or out.

mine gets stuck in /out too. the lever isn't broken, but the knuckle assembly is worn and getting worse each ride.

Anth, if you pull the kicker off you'll find that either the ball bearing and spring are full of crud (looking at you vids out there at Anglesea) or the worn indicated by a groove inside the lever bolt housing (thats the lever getting stuck). Apply a liberal amount of WD and let it soak, apply anti seize lube over it and if you have a few ball bearings abou, find one that is slightly larger if not the same.
The side to side play indicates is a worn bushing where the pin goes through or the pin itself is worn.

Pretty hard to snap that lever but when they seize closed (due to that ball bearing & spring failing), it is a fín prick to pull out.

your a legend. thanks for that info. i'm going to pull mine apart. where did you get that drawing?
did it have prices for the parts?

your right about anglesea its always mud heaven there, but we love it :)

I went to straight to Halls Cycles and they have a great array of parts manuals for husky and great service too (respond quickly to an email just remember the time difference).
I wouldn't worry about replacing the lever, my 16yo Wr360 has a bit a play in it but no issues, just that spring and bearing. You can pull that knuckle off and weld a few tacks to bring back to original position and a worn pin...l've seen a patched up job on a TE using a case harden allen head cut down, regrooved and circlipped back on.

PS. Your husky's only a young pup :)

I clean my kickstart lever every now and then, and when i put it together again i fill up the joint and also the boot with waterresistant wheel bearing grease. perfect.
