  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husky TE 449/511 2011 - Various stuff

Hi ! New Husky owner here, and new to the forum. I've been reading though the posts and threads regarding this bike. Got a few questions, and some things are still a little unclear. (Impressed by this forum btw).

Purchased a 2011 TE-511 in good shape with 6000km on the clock for about 6000 US$$ , including original SMR511 wheels (with custom made spacer to make them fit).

I want (or need) to purchase the oil filter cover from zip-ty[1] as the previous owner has hard-tightened the cover and its impossible to get off. Who knew metall can be this soft ?? Even when being extra careful and attempting all useful tricks, the nut is now rounded.

Like the price, but shipping to scandinavia is a whopping 140$$ , thats unheard of!! Are there any other retailers who sell this? I have not been able to locate any shops that have the other one [2] , i've checked everywhere, even eBay..

Would also be nice if the same shop sells new oil-mesh-screws aswell (the 17mm nuts) and a new alu-fuel cap.

Question nr 2: Regarding oil , yes i have understood that there are issues resulting in the oil being pushed up the air filter (i've noticed this as well), but not all of us are interested in installing extra breather kits. As people say different things, how much oil to you fill specifically, 1L ?
My last filling resulted in the oil being a little over "Halfway" in the sight glass cold (1-2mm visible when on side stand). Should be okay right? I haven't fired her up after oil change yet because i need to change the filter, and order a new stock mesh-filter as one of the stock PLASTIC-oil-mesh-filters broke... (barely touched it i swear!)

Other than that, great forum! I'll be riding my husky through the winter, will be exiting to see how she handles the weather.
