• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husky dealers sending back moss tools?

Kawagumby

Husqvarna
AA Class
I read in another thread a Husky dealer said he has to send back MOSS tool to BMW. Is that what is happening? So Husky is no longer backing the bike for service? This will be the last straw for me if that is the case. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

There is also a rumor that husky is working on their own tool to continue to support these bikes without any BMW connection.

Personally, I think husky really is going to try and support these bikes. They are just in process of LOTS of change and it is very reasonable for things to take a bit to settle out. I wouldn't doubt that current BMW tools are being returned, but expect something is in the works to replace that void.

I have heard that one option for KTM is to put a new ECU in every 650 that is compatible with either the Husky HST or KTM XC1 tool. Probably cheaper to do that than to subsidize MOSS tools. Apparently the HST and XC1 tools were designed by the same company.

I'm a bit miffed at this myself. I went and re read my email from KTM, assuring me that they will service my bike. I fired off another email to them for more clarifications. I think it is an individual dealer choice.$7,500 for a tool that may service 4 bikes once every couple years, I can understand if they send it back.

On the plus side, Rexxer has a unit that will do most everything the moss tool does. I have an email out to David @ Redline, who does the genius programming. Hopefully it will all be good.

anyone know where the closest husky moss-tooled dealer is to so-cal? i wanna try to do this soon if the tools have to go back soon. i bought mine at gp in san diego...

To the op, maybe call a husky dealer. Posting threads like this only perpetuates Internet rumors and gossip

Thanks for the input, Mom. But I was just asking a question to see if other dealers had been sending in their tools as one poster here had noted.

There are Husky dealers with MOSS tools and there are dealers without, and has always been thus.

As pointed out above, there are some in California, Bills in Salem, OR has one.... and there is a thread around here listing others. This was a hurdle that dealers needed to clear for selling Terra/Strada...but some got their MOSS and then returned it....others never ordered one ....and some have one and are ready to service your bike. Ive heard of NO requirement by KTM or HVNA to return the tools, this has been a dealer by dealer thing AFAIK.

Bullshit, maybe the service rep at my dealer shouldn't have told me they were sending theirs back then. I told him that I would show them the email I got from KTM promising full Husky service on the Terra/Strada/BMW based Huskies.

Whether Husky is recalling them or the dealer opted to send it back would be the question. BMW dealers will not send em back. Go Figure.

For me, the issue is one of logistics. I won't tolerate having to transport a bike to a BMW dealer many miles away - should the need arise. On the other hand, if another means of accessing the computer is developed, that would really be cool. I was thinking of the KTM 690 enduro as an alternate, but after reading many, many posts by owners, it seems quite a few have computer/fuel-mix problems of their own (rough idle and stalling, LOL), and a habit of blowing thethrottle valve right off the cylinder (for a small, but consistent percentage of bikes). Plus the dang things vibrate at speed with a close-ratio tranny.
I love the Terra, but I'm not going to invest in much aftermarket until some of the dust settles about the long-term practicality of ownership. I'm used to doing all my own service work and that ain't gonna change now.
