  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Husky 449/511... will they stick ?

I've been looking hard at the 449 as my first Husky. But the more I look... the more I kinda wish they stuck with the former non BMW product. Seems like the 450/510 was starting to become a pretty refined machine.

Is a 2009/2010 450 a better overall decision than a 2012 449...?

Any experienced views on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Especiallly if you have owned BOTH !

As far as I am concerned there are 3 basic groups of "450's"
  1. 2006/7 450 no efi, no fuel pump
  2. 2008/9/10 450 Mikuni efi, with fuel pump
  3. 20011/12 (and probably 2013) 449 Keihien (sp?) efi, with fuel pump
I did much efi work with dynojet in 2009 in Las Vegas.

The two things that I love about the 449 are the power modes and the seat. The power modes are great because I suck and it's fun to have full power to play with but manageable power for trails. Being 6ft it is nice to be able to move around and that seat is perfect with the shape of it. Love how the tank is underneath. Two things that you can't adapt to another bike. It truly was the first bike I've ridden that I didn't have any real complaints about. The only thing I would add is some bar risers.

You can put a power selector switch on most efi bikes if it doesn't have one.

You don't have issues with no fuel tank options... ie very short range ? And the BIG loose feel of the bike ? I like the idea of the seat... but not at the cost of a 65 mile ride. But I am more interested in learning others impressions. I want to like the bike.

I have owned the following. 04 TE 510,07 TE 450,08 TE 250/310,2010 TXC 250,2010 CRF 250r and now have a dialed in 2011 TXC 449. The 449 is much better that the older TE line and is nearly as easy to ride in the single track as the 250 TXC and CRF. I will be posting a detailed ride report soon

I was just at BestBuy , had my bike parked out front and got 3 complements :) As far as how well it works is how well can you ride. Every time I ride technical trails it impresses me :) it's going to stick for a bit, it's a great bike. Great power, predictable handling, perfect balance is hard to toss out.

I just rent it but fully intend to buy one. I have also ridden the 250 and 310 all day. The mileage wasn't a concern as a trail rider. It isn't street legal so I just head back to the truck for lunch. It is stable but handles much quicker than it would seem. It front end seems heavy and its tall but I really have to say it was a great bike. I would pick it over the others. Motosportz sells a tank that sits on the rear fender if mileage is a concern. It's also a quick disconnect.
I wasn't aware of the fact that you can set any bike with two power modes.

Also wanted to note that the bike was a TC. Not sure if the suspension is different.

Not sure where you are but in colorado you can rent one. There is also a week long test ride of all the bikes in Oregon. Forgot the dealer though, I think it's bill's.

I really can't say enough about the bike. If you are a big time racer it may fall flat of expectations but for trails and just playing around, it's great! I would want a 511 as a play bike though, the more power the better lol
