  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How similar is a cr250 vs 125

How similiar is the newest gen cr250 to an 04 cr125 as far as handling, suspension, chassis, and feel?

They got a bad rep in moto land and that's what ill be using it for. Are the motors broad power delivery? Lots of potential? Durable? Any and all comments are appreciated considering selling my 250f after the season and going full husky early 2000s two stroke and sticking it to the four strokes on the track.

First when is the last year they even imported CR250's? A 250 and 125 as you know are different animals and hard to make that comparison. The 10-15 less HP and lighter crank make all the difference in feel. My 02 CR250 feels a lot like my 04 CR165 handling wise. The newer setup like the 2010 and up WR250/300's i have ridden handle good but not amazing like the x-lights to me. Motor wise i always thought he 250/300 huskys were pretty strong. The Wr is a little soft on the bottom which is nice for woods work and lots of mid and top. As with all 2 strokes you can tailor the power to your likes with a pipe and jetting. Hope some of that helps.

The latest cr250s are said to be slow, poorly suspended, poor handling among mx folk. Read the classic steel report on Lamson's cr250 and it makes it sound like the production cr250 was all but a turd next to the Japanese offerings.

Most everyone agrees that the cr125's are very capable and solid bikes where as the cr250's were not nearly as well received.

I know what magazines and the uninformed say is generally bs though as all my Husky's have been damned good with just a few changes so I was just looking to you guys as I've never ridden a cr250. If they share the same frame and layout im sure they can be made to work very well. I just didn't know if the geometry was way off and they were way heavy or something.

Friend has an ex Lamson FBF CR 250 and it's a very capable Vet Class MX bike. As Joe Chod and some others will attest... It doesn't even sound like a regular CR250. It isn't that hard to ride in the woods either, just put a stock WR250 pipe and silencer on it, instead of the Pro Circuit.

Just saw this but that's probably my all-time favorite bike. Turd? Not even close. A bit odd, and the suspension was the weak link, 45 fork has noticeable slop flex when pushed hard. I devastated the local +25 and vet A scene on mine, and it was good enough to put me in the top 20 at Loretta lynn's in the +25 expert class (now junior +25). Actually I should have done better but I held the bike back and endoed my brains out through the Ten Commandments:doh:.

Thats awesome to hear. I rode the 250 for the first time today and got along with it great. Jetting needs to be dialed in better and its geared insanely tall compared to what im used to for moto. Tall enough to clear most jumps out of corners with ease in first. First is generally not usable on a moto track and it was very usable. Fourth would not even be touched as it sits.
