• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How many miles before your wrench/service light comes on?

RuggedExposure

Now with more rugged!
I was at almost 6900 miles yesterday and the little wrench/check engine/service light came on.

-At what mileage is everyone experiencing this?
-Did the dealer turn it off for you?
-Can you erase it yourself?

I'm trying to get a poll going to figure out when/why that light comes on because people are experiencing it at different mileage.

I had just shy of 7000 miles when the wrench appeared. Soon after it appeared I was at Bill's in Salem having my fork seals replaced and asked Bill about it. He said he hooked it up to the MOSS but couldn't clear it, but next day during my trip back to Seattle from Salem it cleared. I suspect it automatically clears after a certain number of miles or possibly a number of on/off cycles.

It seems like some dealerships are having a hard time clearing the wrench icon.
This is the first I've heard of it going away on its own.

Seeing as I may have the only bike that has been reset it's possible that what Bill did via the MOSS hookup did cause "wrench" to clear. But it needed a couple cycles or a few miles to complete.

Thats strange. I had the wrench appear before my 1000km service was due. The wrench was definitely gone when I picked the bike up.

i believe mine came on at 6K miles. Still on but going in for a Moss next week so i'm guessing it will get cleared.

Noticed mine was on at about 7700, still on at 8300. I was worried at first but after reading this thread not so worried.

Sounds like most of you are over your 6k mark to check the valves have you guys done it? Also curious to see if any were out of spec and need to be adjusted?

Since we seem to have a bunch of random mileage for when this light is coming on, I have the feeling that the light isn't programmed to engage at a certain mileage, but rather an amount of hours. How long would you guys say you've ridden your bikes? 150 hrs?

The recommended service interval is 10,000 kms.
10,000km / 150 hrs = average speed of 66.6 kph or about 41mph.

It makes more sense to me that there must be an hour-meter on the computer that makes the light come on.

Had mine checked at around 23,000km but did not need any adjustment. My bike has seen a wide range of riding conditions too, not just gentle commuting. My dealer was told they should be right until at least 30,000km but, as few valve checks have been done to date, I thought it prudent to get it done sooner. So far so good. This rotax just keeps thumping away...

Valves adjusted @7K can't recall by what amount, but they were way off. Since the reshim the flat spot around 3,500 rpm all but got.

Absolutely and nice to hear! To state the obvious, More Revs = More maintenance.
I put 90,000kim on a KLR650 and the valves only needed one adjustment, when the new timing chain went in at 55,000kim.
But I would expect a little more maintenance from the Italian Stallion cause the donk revs harder and how sweet it is!

Just had the 1000klm service and no wrench icon appeared but was told it would appear with 11,000klm on the dial

Wrench icon came on at 1002 kms, as riding in for service. Got to dealership and was told computer down so couldn't reset wrench
